Micro 4/3 lenses - Olympus, Panasonic or.....

Well I snapped up Puddleduck's Nikkor 45mm f:2.8P here this week as I see it as a perfect lens to accompany the Panasonic 20mm pancake lens.

I haven't got my GF1 yet, I'm waiting to see if any become available in the US as I'm travelling over there in three weeks, but when I saw Andy advertising the 45mm I couldn't believe that no-one ese had tigged that it be perfect for an MFT body.

I have the E-P1 with kit lens, and the AF/MF mode works well with the auto zoom mode for focusing (after you AF, you turn the focus ring and the camera switches to zoom to aid focusing)

Most of the adapters seem to be mechanical only, so I guess you'll need to manually set the aperture (camera and lens), and the MF will be without the focus aids.

Will be interested to hear how you get on with MF and LV. I know the Oly screen is lower resolution than the GF1, so maybe the GF1 will make things easier, but MF on the Oly without the zoom focus aid will be very hit and miss (and I wonder whether this is actually usable). I did see the review of the Leica adapter for the GF1 on LL, but they seem to think it was far from ideal for everyday use.

And obviously interested in the adapters and how they all work etc. My statements above are just 'best guess' and I've decided not to go for an adapter at the moment because of these issues. Was just going to wait and see what becomes available.
Anyone know if the adapters are just mechanical or are some of them a little more intelligent?

Before i bought my 450d i did extensive research into 4/3 cameras and the clear winner was the Lumix GF1. It was the only one that gave really good image quality especially with the 20mm pancake lens. The Olympus was a VERY close 2nd for IQ but was harder to use. Still a damn fine camera.

I'm really curious as to how that will pan out - never occured to me either :)

They seems to be loads of 4/3 adaptors springing up, so I imagine you could be pretty agnostic mount wise.

Probably worth considering some M42 lenses as well (which you could also use on your Nikon bodies albeit without infinity focus)
