Try as I might, googling, searching amazon, *bay godox's site etc. I'm struggling to find a mini (say 20-30cm) diffuser/softbox that claims to be compatible with the TT350.
Does anyone have any recommendations, either for one that's designed to fit, or for a universal mini softbox.
I appreciate it won't be as good a shoot through umbrella or larger softbox, but I'm looking for something very portable for either on camera or off camera that can be carried around at conventions (hence needing to be small so as not to get in the way).

Can’t help with ‘mini softbox’ because unless you’re shooting macro it’s a flawed concept. By the time you’re at shooting distance the difference between bare flash and a tiny softbox is non existent.

I would say a flashbender will do a job, but the best ‘soft’ flash option for an on-camera speedlight is bouncing.

If what’s on your Flickr is what you’re wanting to improve, a decent folding beauty dish or softbox on a pole fired from a trigger is the best option by miles.

Hi Phil,

Yes, it's the people shots in my flickr that I'm looking to improve.
Outdoors I'm happy using natural light (though on some occasions a little fill would help - Guessing the diffuser on cam would probably suffice).

The issue is indoors. The lighting is often very poor, so wanting to use flash to allow a lower ISO and potentially lose the background. My daughter is often with me, so I was hoping to get something that could be used off camera (on a pole/stand of some kind) that she can hold. It does need to be reasonably small though, due to how crowded these places can be... And then there are the times where I'll be by myself, I don't really want to be setting up a stand each time, but I do want to soften the flash.

From what you're saying, something like this

isn't going to cut the mustard...

Would something around this size
http://www.lencarta.com/all-products/softboxes/60x60cm-speedlight-e-type-folding-softbox
work? Presumably on a boom pole of some kind + a cold shoe to mount the flash.
This one isn't going to work with the flash attached to the camera...

When I don't have my 'assistant ;)', would a flashbender (had to look that up) be better than the small octa I linked?
I have to say, I've not seen them before.

Cheers for that. Interesting quite how close he seemed to need to be - but that was bright sunlight.

If the light isn’t so close it’s getting in the way of the shot, it’s probably too far away.

Yes the 60cm one is what I’d recommend, on a VAL pole you can do it yourself.

This really. You need a much bigger light source and, probably, a more powerful flash. Lots of options TBH, only limited by practical considerations.

For something on-camera, look at Lumiquest.

You're right, I'm on a hiding to nothing really. I might blow £1.25 on one of those Lumiquest on Camera ones, just to see what happens.

not that we're talking about much cash...
To see what they are like. If they are rubbish, I've not wasted much. If they are an improvement then they are an improvement.

Next, the remote trigger and a stick :)

Remember that the effective size of the light, and therefore the softening of shadows, reduces with distance in line with the inverse square law - basically if the distance is doubled, the effective size of the light is reduced to one quarter. In other words, use it close, but at the same time brightness also reduces broadly in line with ISL so if you have say a couple and position the light to one side the person on the far side will be significantly darker. So, close, but try to keep the light roughly the same distance from each person and not too far to one side.

A light-weight stand (eg Konig for around a tenner) also makes a decent 'stick' with the legs folded so you can use it either way.

I thought I should report back.

I've not progressed (at least on the Fuji) off camera yet.

is probably the slightly better one to be honest, but with the 35mm f/2 I have trouble keeping it away from the front of the lens !!!
So I've been using

Which does look a bit naf, but does soften the light to an extent.

Still learning, but a couple of not too horrendous examples...

But I really must get them to stop hugging the walls - Still the shadows here are softer than the bare flash itself.
