Hi

I have been contemplating buying the Minolta AF 70-210mm f/4 beercan Lens for my Sony A200.

I was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with this lens? Can get it for £127 is it worth it?

I currently have the kit 18-70mm & a Sigma 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 Aspherical Macro

Thanks, Vicky

Its optically a very nice lens.

A constant f/4 in that range is still a dream for Nikon owners, and the Canon version costs 7x more.

Buy it.

Cool, thanks :)

Well it's my birthday in September, so might get the BF to get it for an early present, so I can take it on holiday :D hehe

And then some dumbells to build your arms up ;) Built like a tank, great IQ, but a heavy beast.

Heavy?! Its only 700 grams give or take.

A 70-200 f/2.8 is about 1.5kg, so its really not that heavy.

Mind you I am used to 300mm f/2.8 lenses

I second what Andy says, it's a super lens for the price. Wish I'd kept mine and will probably get another in the future.

It's an excellent lens considering that the next premium lens in that range is the Sony 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 G SSM which costs between £500-600 in some places.

It's definitely a worthwhile purchase for anyone on a budget.

For £127, seems like a good buy. Pro's and Con's below.

Constant f/4
nice solid build
full frame ready
Nice bokeh- makes for a handy portrait lens.

Noisy AF
Slow AF - no limiter
Heavy-ish compared to equivalent DT lenses
Contrast not so great wide open

Thanks everyone, seems like it is well worth it :)
