Yes
While out walking my dog to the park, I spotted a woman off one of the TV shows. Can't remember what she is off, something like Emmerdale Waterloo Rd or Hollyoaks. I was going to try and get a photo, but I had the dog lead in one hand, and trying to get the lens cap off with the other hand. I dropped the lens cap on the floor, by the time the fumbling had stopped, the moment had passed.

If I had of had a compact, I would have got the shot :(
I will try and be prepared next time, mind you I often see one of the soap characters on our lane. So I should invest in a little compact !

Personaly I would ask to take a protrait of somebody famuos rather than take candids them. They may not oblige but if they do you will have a photograph a thousand times better than the standard candid on the street shots.

You could have tried talking to her. Women tend not to bite! ;)

But seriously, a change in technique as opposed to a change in camera is all you need by the sounds of things.

As soon as you leave the house, the lens cap should be in a pocket. The lens hood will be all the protection you need in 95% of cases. In the rest such as sand and liquids requiring you to wipe the front element every few minutes, then get a clear filter.

Also, leave the camera always on. It will power itself off after a few minutes and a tap on the shutter will bring it back to life and let you take the shot.

I'd leave the dog at home and take the Nikon.
Yes I would have done if I could have, but it was dogs walkie time. :)

Yes that may have been a better idea, but there again how many times do they already get asked ? probably loads :)

I am willing to bet that they hardly ever get asked, You have to be quite brave to approch people and ask. but they will be used to people dropping there cameras in the mud when they walk past! :)

Obviusly it depends if they are in a good mood and if they think they look good at the time as to if they say yes or no.

Me and the missus often saw James Sutton who played Ryan Lamb in Emmerdale, he would shop in our local shop. He would put a baseball cap on and pull his collar up and leg it, he would either run around the corner or jump into a parked car.

My missus said he probably wanted to get back to Katie Sugden, I said it was more likely he wanted to avoid cameras or autograph hunters
