Just looking in the Glamour section i was wondering what the rough costs were to hold such model shoots ..

Local amateur model or agency pro hire costs ?
Individual charge per togger ?

Reason is that when my studios finally open one of the events i was possibly going to hold was a monthly model shoots in conjunction with new camera club i was going to start up ...

We hold model evenings monthly and will only use pro models, we found amateurs and TFP models far to unreliable. We have a maximum of six toggers and charge £35 per head for a 3 hour shoot.

Hope this has been of help.

Ian

thanks for the reply Ian ..

Are your Pro models local to you or do you look further afield .. ?

I assume from looking at the charge you make per togger (£210 total) most if not all goes to the models fees ..

Again its only an idea i have to possibly gain some extra revenue for my studios but at the rates you mention it might not be lucrative ..

I would have expected to get a decent model for £20 per hour, so for £60 outlay, profit of £150 is not bad (less all the usual costs). But you have to think like a hotel or car hire company -work out what your cost per hour is and then work out how to get the maximum utilisation from the space. You charge more at peak times than off peak times, so you could schedule this in for a quiet night of the week to fill the space, even if after costs you only clear £50, it's still £50.

And you have introduced 6 togs to your studio, who may well come back to hire on their own. And you could arrange to book models andtake a fee from the model for doing so. Same with hair/makeup people....

It's how you view the opportunity.

Thanks Lawrie ...

I will have to look into it further as to using local models and see what fees they charge ...

You also need to take marketing costs into account too, how will you find the 6 togs for the model shoot? We offer refreshments too which has to come off the botton line. Added to this is the cost of you being there for the evening, electric etc, you can find these evenings are not that profitable. However, we do find once someone has been on one of these model evenings, they feel more comfortable with setting up the studio lights and directing a modlels etc, so are more likely to hire the studio in the future.

A word about models MUA etc, if you hire them out them charge a "booking fee" you are considered a model agency. This is something we do not do.
