Bit of a short one this: I have a "home studio" in my dining room as its the only place i can use, i have friends of my wife wanting to help me get my portfolio/practice. What after ive done this i want to take some photos of models off the model sites that are out there what chance have i got hiring models, i just see myself as a guy with a camera in his own house. Ive mentioned it to some non photographic friends and you get the "oh you only wanna get some sexy girls in your house", not true i want models who know what they are doing so i can concentrate on getting the photos i need.

basically if i go on mm or ps will models be ok with my setup or do they prefer proper studios etc.

I have shot models in my home, but then I have a portfolio of home shots that I can show them so that they know what I am capable of achieving, and have references from models that I have worked with here.

To start with, you could always hire a studio for your first couple of shoots that will allow you to work with a few models in an environment that's familiar to them. Once they have worked with you, it should be easier to book them again, but for a home shoot.

I know some models can be wary of working with an 'unknown' outrside of a studio, as the studio owner's presence lends an air of security for them. The alternative would be to accept an accompanying chaperone, but this can bring up a different set of problems.

There is a studio for hire locally to me and I've just been reading about models wanting to fetch an escort either a friend or bf and the pitfalls surrounding the issue. I think hiring a studio would be a good starting point as long as the model shows up. In the mean time I will practice with friends etc until I'm confident enough.

Its a bit chicken & egg. You really need to be a member on somewhere like Purestorm or Net-Model & get some feedback from a couple of shoots. It may be worth hiring a studio & the model through the studio. With this scenario if it is a known studio then there is no need for the model to feel that she needs a chaperone. Each to their own but I think chaperones can be a right pain.

If you join something like Purestorm or similar, look out for local studios doing 'studio days.' These involve the studio hiring a model for the day and then renting out shooting 'slots.' That way you can get to shoot in a studio, with a model guaranteed to be there, and most will charge something like £40 - £50 for an hour's slot, depending on what level the model is working up to. You will likely also get assistance with the lighting from the studio owner if required, which all helps with the learning process.
