Monitor, and dual monitor advice please

My current monitor, a Viewsonic 17 inch (VP171s) is 5 years old so not technically up to scratch. Recently a slight banding problem has made me decide to look at a new monitor. Reading the threads on here, the Dell 2209WA seems to be the most recommended, is this still the case or is there a newer model that I should look at without breaking the bank.

My present monitor works ok as a normal screen, so it seems sensible to get a new graphics card fitted and run a dual monitor system. I currently use a Radeon All in Wonder X1800XL card. Does anyone have a recomendation for a card or is a card a card. Do I need special software to run a dual system or just configure the computer to suit.

So many questions, sorry, but I would appreciate any thoughts you have please.

Your current computer and budget will determine what kind of graphics card you can buy, and what you use your computer for will determine how good a graphics card you need.

2209wa's can be picked up from ebay refurb for about £170.

Thanks Chris and Neil. I have decided to buy a new monitor from Amazon, they seem to offer a decent price and the warranty is attractive, to my mind, the new waranty is worth the extra cost over refurbished. I didnt see any "dont buy this monitor" comments so it looks like the 2209 is still the one to go for.
I use the computer for normal things, email, writing, surfing, conversations, things that are not dependant on speed or quality, no gaming. However, my main use is editing, and thats really why I want the quality. While I dont want to throw money away on things that wont be used, I would rather invest in something that will give me good results now rather than buying cheap, and buying for a second time later on.
I appreciate your thoughts and I guess its time to get the computer checked out to see just what can be fitted in rather than guessing.
