Monitor Calibration - Different Spyder Versions?

I have a few questions about monitor calibration devices

1. Is it worth it? (i think i know the answer is yes, i just want some confirmation.)

2. What are the differences between the different versions of the sypder calibration systems (express, elite and pro)

I only have an immediate need to calibrate my 1 monitor, but if i bought any of these systems could i calibrate other monitors with them (others halfs laptop, parents pc etc). Or if i upgraded my monitor at another point will the calibration device still work.

I am running Windows 7 - 64bit if that makes a difference?

The differences are in the software - the spyder itself is the same device, I can't speak for other systems.

Yes you can calibrate as many monitors as you have, I haven't read the EULA regarding numbers but I'd guess as long as it's all 'yours' it doesn't matter.
 
Techinicaly its marketed as only the Elite can do multiple monitors, but in reality any of them can. The only difference is the software and how in depth it is and how much user control it gives. I have both the Pro and elite, and if it hadnt have come with it, I wouldnt have bothered spending the extra on the elite.

actually the pro is marketed as multi screen..

you will need a pci-express graphics card to calibrate independently for all devices.

Is that right that the pro doesnt adjust brightness etc?
Best prices i can find for...

spyder 3 pro £84.95
spyder 3 elite £123.90

1.) can anyone find any better prices?
2.) Is it really worth almost £40 extra for the elite?
3.) is it easy to ensure the right brightness / lumoluminosity?
4.) Is their a better alternative? (pantone Huey or something else?

Edit - seeing as the spyder 3 came out in April 2008, does anyone know if they are likely to be releasing a new product soon? (dont want to spend out then find out soemthing new has come along!!). The only thing i could find r.e. an update is the Spyder3elite is a new software version been relased (4.0) which you can upgrade to for free if you buyt the elite!

Blimey, that would be cheap, cant seem to find anything as cheap as that.

Any thoughts of my other questions (you seem to be the calibration king ;))

The latest software does brightness and contrast setting and multiple monitors.

Why not see if you can get a good second hand one and just do the software updates which are free.
 
Any thoughts on the Huey Pro? I can get one of these second hand at a reasonable price.

Just downloaded the latest software. It's far better than the previous version and calibrated the macbook and external monitor fantastically.
