Monitor Calibration software?

Software cannot actually calibrate a monitor, you need a piece of hardware. I, personally, use a Huey pro. You can buy these for about £60 if you shop around but you need something to actually read the output of the monitor in order to tell what it is actually giving out.

There are alternatives but they all basically do the same! If you live near to another TPer that has a calibrator you could always borrow theirs! I have attached my calibrator to several peoples computers in order to create a profile and they are happy with the results.
 
hmm, I should look out for one of those then, I know I need one but its something I would only need once and then I could write down the options maybe?

I doubt there is anyone around in kent that has a spare I could borrow for a day
 
In reality the better ones retest the calibration every fifteen minutes or so. This is because as the background light changes so does your monitors calibration. I however have mine connected to my mac pro and have calibrated the families computers plus my macbook pro, mini and PCs.
 
so you have it aimed at the screen all the time or does it sit on the screen?
Basically, does it stop you from seeing part of the screen?
 
No it sticks to the screen whilst it calibrates then it sits on top of your monitor and detects the background light so it can make adjustments to your screen levels.
