Thanks both!
Woof woof, do you have any shots to share taken on a 12-24?
No not seen this, I'll be sure to check my serial number eek!First of all what is your budget?
The AF-S 24-70mm f2.8 ED N lens Is what I would recommend. It is a good fast focus lens as a general purpose lens costing around £1200 . Limiting yourself to wide angle lens limits what you can do with a camera. With 24.3 Megapixels to play with and possibly even higher shooting in TIFF give plenty of flexability to get closeup shots via editing without much or and picture deteriation loss
Have you read this???

Don't forget you can take panoramic shots and stitch them together for views as wide as you like See example below
I think I'll be looking at the 14mm primes then, just gotta find one now! Altho the Samyang is MF?For a UWA zoom, I have a feeling you have a choice between the Sigma 12-24s (2 versions IIRC) and the rather more expensive 14-24 Nikkor f/2.8. A fair few primes available, ranging from the Sigma 8mm fisheye (retains AF etc) through the Samyang 8mm (Nikon mount has auto aperture IIRC but is MF only) and up through a few 14mm options (I have the Tamron 14mm and it seems to distort less than the Samyang, as well as retaining full auto functions).

Maybe 12-24 will be better.
Thanks all![]()
You dont need an ultrawide for cars, i shot these with a D750 and 24-85mm VR http://gcphotography9757.zenfolio.com/p673747168 and the flip out screen allows you to get low down without breaking old bones like mineNo not seen this, I'll be sure to check my serial number eek!
Thanks for everyone's suggestions gonna look into them tonight.. As for budget haven't really set one as im unsure on what prices to expect...
The stitching idea is a great idea and something I will try this, but I do a lot of photos at car shows where I don't always have the ability to do this so for these occasions it will be nice to have a wide angle too![]()

Do you really want/need ultra wide, if so and want to use filters then the Nikon 16-35mm f/4 is the best but if you only need the 24mm range then the 24-85mm VR for around £230 used is a bargain, i have never ratet the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, its over priced, over rated, overdue an ugrade and too bleedin big
So those photos were taken on the kit 24-85? If so I might pop into curry's tomorrow and get one...You dont need an ultrawide for cars, i shot these with a D750 and 24-85mm VR http://gcphotography9757.zenfolio.com/p673747168 and the flip out screen allows you to get low down without breaking old bones like mine

Yep, everyone with the 24-85mm VR, its a tack sharp lens.So those photos were taken on the kit 24-85? If so I might pop into curry's tomorrow and get one...
Also that's the reason I've had the d750 and not the 810! I got the d5100 years ago as I was spending so much time on my knees with my d50, and vowed if ever a fx with a tilt screen came up I'd have it, last year I was over the moon when nikon announced the d750 and I'm finally in a position to part with some cash
Anyway you have now tempted me with the kit lens as it would mean I can pick one up tomorrow... I was just nervous as the 18-55 on the DX was never wide enough and I don't seem to have the brainpower to work out if 24mm on a fx is wider than than 18 on the DX lol
Dont pay £400 at Currys when you can get it here for under £300 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Nikon...679?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3a977815c7So those photos were taken on the kit 24-85? If so I might pop into curry's tomorrow and get one...

Hmmmm I'm just always dubious about Hong Kong locations... I just feel with my luck I'm better paying more and buying from a location that, should it go tits up, I can get to and rant to someone about lolDont pay £400 at Currys when you can get it here for under £300 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Nikon...679?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3a977815c7
They are in the UK so no problems there, in case you werent aware Nikon warranties on lenses are valid worldwide so it makes zero difference where you but the lenses from, Bodies only have a valid warranty from the source countryHmmmm I'm just always dubious about Hong Kong locations... Don't get me wrong I'd love to save £100 but don't want the hassle if there is a problem...if they are in the UK and local so I could get it this weekend I'd do it!
When I clicked on the link provided it said Hong Kong... Useful info about lens warranty tho... I'll double check the validity of this company and if they can offer quick delivery I'll get it!They are in the UK so no problems there, in case you werent aware Nikon warranties on lenses are valid worldwide so it makes zero difference where you but the lenses from, Bodies only have a valid warranty from the source country
The OP wants an FX wide angle lens and the posted link comes up with the majority of DX standard zoom lenses where a DX lens is the winner
out of curiosity, what is it that i need to look for in the lens name to tell me if its suitable for DX or FX? A lot of the DX lenses I had actually had "DX" on the lens, but I also had a couple that didnt mention DX at all, yet they were DX lenses. Just so I know what to look for when I want further lenses...The OP wants an FX wide angle lens and the posted link comes up with the majority of DX standard zoom lenses where a DX lens is the winner
Its different for each manufacturer but for Nikon heres a guide http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/Nikon/Nikon-SLR-Lensesout of curiosity, what is it that i need to look for in the lens name to tell me if its suitable for DX or FX? Also currently scouring the net for any of the lenses mentioned to see what I can pick up this weekend, so a massive thanks for the huge amount of responses and valuable info from you all
Ill keep you posted with what I get![]()
Thats the older non VR, not nearly as good as the VR versionDoes seem a little like you have money to burn.
You could have bought the 24-85mm kit from Panamoz for £1246 with 3 year warranty.
BUT, that's your call.
Have you considered this: http://www.harrisoncameras.co.uk/Us...-2014415.htm?gclid=CJnK-sfM4cYCFZQZtAodgNUOWw
Could save you a few quid.
Lol no far from it, its just sometimes i think you get what you pay for, and with my luck if i buy from some company thats perhaps not so well known or only operates on the web, ill end up getting stung. i always seem to get the one dodgy fake, so id rather just pay a little more and have piece of mind. ive been stung before!Does seem a little like you have money to burn.

All DX lenses have DX on then as far as I'm aware. Lenses without DX are FX lenses. FX lenses don't say FX on them, they just don't say DX. My guess is the lenses you had without DX on were indeed FX (assuming they were Nikon) and so suitable for your new camera. 3rd party lenses have different labels for APS and FF.out of curiosity, what is it that i need to look for in the lens name to tell me if its suitable for DX or FX? Nikon 70-300mm VR? That's definitely FX and a good lens to boot. The non VR is also FX I believe but isn't great so no loss.A 70-300 snerkler and if it turns out to be fx suitable I'll kick myself lol
