OK. Thanks everyone who gave me advice about buying a macro lens and specifically the Tamron 90mm. I have now got the money to buy the Tamron and have been looking at where to get it. I have seen what appears to be the same lens at widely varying prices from different retailers. I wonder if some of them are too good to be true and that perhaps there is an older version on sale at the cheaper price. There are so many letters in the descriptions. For example
Tamron 90mm f2.8 SP Di Macro Lens - Nikon Fit. This one does not include the AF that some others have. One says "with motor" but is that the same as AF? I am totally confused and dont know which sellers are reliable anyway. One Stop Digital seems to have the cheapest price at £259-18 for what they describe as Tamron SP AF 90mm f2.8 macro 1:1 Di lens. It says on their site that the product was added to their site on 18.5.2005 so does that mean it is an old model.
Warehouse Express have a Tamron 90mmf2.8 SPDimacro lens nikon fit at £343-99 but it does not say AF.
Digital 4U offer the Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro Di Nikon fit (with motor) at £319.99.
Can anyone please help me sort all this out so that I can get the best lens at a reasonable price from a reliable retailer. If anyone can I will be so grateful.
Once I have got this I promise not to ask for any advice on buying lenses for a long while cause I wont have the money again.:)

I think the main difference is between the sellers rather than the lens. Eg OneStop Digital is Hong Kong based, you will not have a UK warranty and there are import taxes invloved.

Have a look here http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod256.html Jacobs looks favourite at £324 for my money. Your nearest branch is in London. Give them a call, but it looks like that price might have moved up, and their on-line prices are sometimes different to in-store.

If you see a price that's significantly lower than the others, it's usually an import. Your risk... ;)

Thank you Richard. I didnt think about imports. The Jacobs lens is described as EOS so I think that may be different. I think Warehouse Exress are OK arent they? I have heard people talk about them on here.

Warehouse Express are very good, Jacobs, Park Cameras, Bristol Cameras, Morris Photo, Jessops, several others - all much the same. Their prices fluctuate all the time. Just who's got the lens in stock at the best price. Check postage costs, sometimes that's included.

If you buy from any reputable UK dealer, it will always be new stock, latest version, though I'm not sure that lens has changed much recently. Nikon fit, Canon fit, Sony whatever, same lens, same spec, same price, just different camera mount.
 
EOS will be for a Canon, best bet is just google all the known shops and see what you can get.
Might be a good idea to call and see if its actually in stock, too many times they aren't.

Or buy it from this lot via Amazon, at least that way your guarantee is with them. Just got a refund from Amazon for a nine month old netbook that failed, no questions asked

Personally, I would spend the extra and visit a real shop so I could satisfy myself that the lens was suitable for a D60 (as in had an AF motor built in).

Of course, if the lens is only going to be used for Macro, any lack of AF isn't a real issue since MF is usually the order of the day (set focus,reproduction ratio then rock gently to achieve focus - the AF confirm light will work if you can't see when the image is in focus) but since the lens is also great for portraits, having AF available is worthwhile.
