My New Website

Its ok for a personal site but for a business site then it wouldnt work at all. More things wrong with it then right.

Same as the suggestion by Vicky, less is more.

Also I'd suggest use the email with your hosting rather than a gmail account.

well im a photographer not a website builder.. can you help me make it pro?

Im not a website builder but I can give you a few tips.

Are you getting paid to have 7 day shop have a link on your site? If you are not then lose it, same with the macmillan. Lose the Video as well. Theres way to much stuff on your home page and its takes a while to load. Also remove the facebook, youtube and paypal links as well as the family in the top right. If you going to have photos on your homepage make it a slideshow that fits most of your page rather than a little low res shot thats quite small in the middle. Create a info page telling people about yourself, (name, business, what you take photos of, where you are based etc.) You can put a small macmillan logo in there if you want. With your portfolio you have to many pictures. Make 1 picture big in the centre of the page with the option to move to the next one manually. Simple viewer is a great free program for this.

The used equipment page should be deleted, if you want to advertise your old stuff maybe make a link to your ebay account and put that on your info page but dont make a whole section from it. Maybe have a Contact me page as well as a pricing page.

Hope that helps. Although im sure all you wanted to hear is "good site".

Andy

EDIT: 1 more thing, LOSE THE MUSIC! :D

the music must DIIIIIEEEEEEEE, sorry pet hate on music on sites :p

streamline, less is always more.

lose the used equipment page

how/why are 7dayshop advertising on your site?

all massively harsh but I think honest and fair so don't take offence ;)

it might be worth considering a content managment system like joomla or wordpress (which I use) as coding a website from scratch is vvv hard and complicated and tends to leave crappy results (at least it did on all my attempts)

That's just a site builder. What's the address of your site?

im web designer, wouldn't advice for flash. its slow and hard to control if its a mess.

maybe you can have a look on wordpress.org and choose the template, id recommend it.

It's a bit clunky and hard to use, but I'm another non-flash fan. Sorry!

Hey People, Im not mad,, I appreciate any support and guidance.. Im currently re-building it on your advice.. Thanks.. Has any of you got any sites that you would like me to add links on my site??

Much better, the loading time for me was nearly 10 seconds though, which is too long imo. It's certainly an improvement though.

the homepage looks a bit sinister (no disrespect) but the gallery images are great.

well done :)

@ wrz_dazza

I know it was just a quickie will ammend later.

The problem about the speed, i think its because of the file image sizes, can quite work out what res the photos should be ??

what file format do you use for images?

Your portfolio loaded fine for me actually, it was the loading at the start and then the menu appeared about 5 seconds after the main page, that was the main problem for me. Id also change the first image to something else like the first one in the Sea and Land section would probably work well.

I think it has potential, but needs more work. I'd like to see a bigger focus on the images, and less on the other sections.

Three big "deal-breaker" issues for me:

1) The image on the home page looks like it's had 100% JPEG compression, and been resized (upscaled). You have much better ones that could go there (or get a better quality copy of the same one).

2) I sometimes like to resize my browser to half width/height, as I can be doing many things at once and despite having two monitors there isn't enough space for everything. Your website and all the content resizes to fit my browser window - so on my screen the text size is so small that it's unreadable.

3) I clicked on "Shop", clicked one of the options - and it went straight to PayPal . I expected to see a list of images for sale...?

And some smaller issues ones:

1) You mention that you were Cornwall Photographer of the Year, but don't provide any more information or a link. Google doesn't seem to tell me more, either.

2) The "CV" page has a lovely bright image in the background, but it contrasts badly with your self-portrait which is quite dark and moody. I'd keep the background, but get a brighter more smiley image of yourself :).

3) The portfolio section needs a re-think. It takes too long to scroll through the images. Although many of them are great, I'd like to see a list of thumbnails (or something similar) so I can personally choose the ones that I want to see bigger.

Sorry if this all sounds harsh :schtum:... But it is a good start, and with some work and more emphasis on the pictures, it would be a much nicer website to use.
