My Website Disaster - Help Needed

I was hoping to get my self a portfolio site using indexhibit and was encouraged by the amount of people I found who said this would be really easy to set up. How wrong they were. I've got litlle or no idea what I'm supposed to be doing! If anyone can help/guide me through getting started I would be extremely grateful.

For info I'm on a Mac and using Blackfoot hosting

I've never heard of indexhibit before. But generally with websites it is good to have an idea in your head, or even better, on paper, of what you want it to look like, how you want the navigation to work etc before you start building it.
