Can anyone give me an example.. reason.. to use a 10 stop filter.. I havent a clue what they are for.. ta :)

Surely you mean show the movement over time by blurring waterfall/river/waves/clouds in a long exposure. :thinking:

I have used it for the above, and also attempted long exposures at busy tourist destinations on holiday to try and make the tourists disappear. If they keep moving in long exposures. ;)
 
6-10 stops of ND for exposure times running into whole seconds in normal daylight, to blur anything that moves - water, waves, clouds, trees/leaves, make people and cars disappear.

2-4 stops of ND for low f/number and shallow DoF in bright light, or for pushing the shutter speed down below the x-sync limit.
 
It reduces your the light by 10stops meaning you can capture a slow effect, mainly used for landscape photography. Found this online, not the best example but your see it gives the water a slower creamer look :)

Here is a chart showing how much effect different ND filters have on the shutter speed..( 10 Stop ND is ND1000 on the chart)

ICM photography - gives me exposures of between three and ten seconds - plenty of time for the camera to move in that.

Looks more like they used a Welding Glass... There used to be a thread on here about using them somewhere...

Are you looking at getting into landscapes/seascapes? Have considered a grad filter for sports but can't see much need for a big stopper at the Stanley ground (apart from between the pegs that is!).

I got one with a camera I bought.. I havent even tried it.. probably wont for my type of photogrpahy.. the few landscapes I do are on days out wiht the missus happy snapping... so prob never gonna use..
