Need a new bag

Im currently using a Lowepro Slingshot 302AW, which holds the majority of my kit, but the more I use it, the more uncomfortable I find it.

I think I'd prefer something with two straps instead of one. I'm not necessarily looking for something the same size, as I'd like to use it for day's out, so just large enough to hold a D700, a 24-70 f2.8, and a 70-200 f2.8. I'd also like to be able to strap a tripod to it.

Has anyone had any experience of the Lowepro fastback bags, or can you suggest an alternative?

the fast back bags are good.... (i would say that as im trying to sell one)

the only thing with the fastback bags is that there arent any designated tripod holders, however there is a weather flap at the bottom with the cicky clips that extend enough to hold a tripod (but it sticks out a bit- depending on what tripod youve got

the other thing with the fastpacks are the storage area (top half) as only the bottom half is a designated camera protection unit- but you do get easy side access which helps too

I got the Vanguard Up-Rise 45 a couple of months ago and have been really pleased with it. It's probably a similar size to your current bag, but with the two straps and good padding I've found it really comfortable on long hikes. It's also got a tripod sling and lots of nice touches like a rain cover and quick access opening.

I have the Vanguard up-rise 45 here too, love it. It's the nicest bag I've had to date, which includes numerous lowepro models. I hated their slingshot type, I used to have a slingshot 100aw. It cut the neck off of me over time. It felt uncomfortable at best.

The Vanguard is a good price, a lovely orange colour interior, handy for finding your small bits and pieces. It has quick access to your body + 70-200, fits another 2 lenses plus a flash unit, rocket blower, all your cards, a torch, an RS-sport strap ... it has the rain cover & tripod mount. And it's tough as nails. I've been through the thickest of Irish woodlands with it many times.

Cheers. To be honest, its not a bad thing if it is smaller than the slingshot. Id actually prefer that it was.

It just needs to be big enough to hold what I need, and be comfortable enough to carry around all day. Thanks for the suggestion; Ill go and have a look :thumbs:

Thanks for the link :thumbs: It definitely looks like it could fit the bill. Now I just need to find somewhere that stocks them so that I can go and have an actual play with one :D
 
I have a National Geographic backpack which has proved useful over the last few years. Plenty of pockets and enough room for Eos 40D plus lens.
Quite a versatile bag which I have used as carry on baggage for holiday flights, rally spectating and airshows.
Even has dedicated pocket for small laptop or ipad.
 
I LOVE my Flipside bags.

Definately worth having a look at, don't think you'd need the 400/ 500AW I have, but they make them smaller such as the 300AW?

Think it would be good for the purposes you describe.

take a look at the ThinkTank Streetwalker range as well (a little more 'pricey' but they're bombproof and pretty discrete looking). I use a Streetwalker HD and it easily holds 1-2 bodies, a job lot of lenses and flash kit. But can equally hold 1 body and a couple of lenses with room for sarnies, etc.
 
Thanks chaps! I've made the decision to visit a few shops on Saturday. First stop will be Digital Depot in Stevenage....

It's always dangerous when I go to camera shops!
 
I tried a crumpler half photo a lowepro slingshot and both were flawed. I've now got a kata and that's fabulous.
 
Another for the flipside. Ive a 400aw, it is quite bulky but holds alot of kit and is extra secure due to the design.I bought mine for taveling to china so liked the extra security and it also just fits carry on.

Cheers Peter, but I'm really trying to 'not' take all my kit out with me when I'm out :0)

I am quite liking the idea of a flipside though...
 
Update.....in case anyone is interested ;0)

I went over to digital depot today, and picked up a lowepro flipside 300.

I had a list in my mind of the minimum equipment to take out with me where I would be walking for the majority of the day. So, I got home and loaded it up with D700 (no grip), 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f.28, lens hoods for both, spare battery, rocket blower, lens cloth, cokin wide angle filter holder, 2 grads, b+w 10 stopper, cable release and spare CF card. I'm happy to say, that all that fit absolutely perfectly, and I don't think I could fit another thing in it! Nice and snug!

Wearing it is so much more comfortable than the slingshot, and I'm now looking forward to my next photo day out :0)
