Can somebody recommend a program to allow me to access my iPod direct from my pc to upload, please?

I want to avoid itunes because it's not working with my ipod. I want to access the ipod directly like a memory stick.

how so?

i think you may have problems accessing it, as per the link above you need to enable disk mode within itunes. even then the folder structure is random folder and file names if i remember rightly.

if you just want to get the music off try something like copypod.

It says it's syncing and uploading, but when it's done nowt has changed on the ipod. Bloody stupid Apple crap. ;)

It's a database based device, so if you want to use it as anything other than an external HDD you'll need to use a program like iTunes.

Agree with James. You can't just drag n drop as it needs to create the database files correctly.

Typically, it's done with a plugin for whichever music library system you use. I use foobar2000 here and there's an iPod plugin for that (never used it though - don't have an iPod here). I've successfully used WinAmp in the past too.

What do you currently use to play music on your PC?

try restoring the ipod to factory and resyncing (use button on the itunes sync page). had a similar problem ages ago and that resolved it, make sure you on the latest firmware too (again should tell you on the sync page).

Sharepod!
It's all I've ever used, I can't stand how iTunes wants to take over everything.

again needs itunes working initially..

"SharePod cannot find my iPod even though it is plugged in
SharePod searches for a removable drive containing an 'iPod_Control\iTunesDB' file to detect your iPod. If your iPod has just been restored or new, it may not have the required files for SharePod to know the drive is an iPod. Please run iTunes, which will correctly initialize your iPod with all the required files"

Now itunes is ****ed. I hate Apple.

This is what the foobar2000 plugin says:

"Help! My iPhone / iPod touch is not detected!

Make sure you have iTunes (or at least Apple Mobile Device Support and Quicktime) installed"

Looks like you can get away with just the underlying driver support.

ah okay, all the ones i read said you needed to do an initial sync with itunes (at least 1 file) for it to write the correct data to the device.

either way there sounds like a software issue with itunes, that would benefit from an update and/or reinstall

Now itunes is ****ed....

why ?

I've had a problem with iTunes not updating itself, downloaded the new version, uninstalled the old one and installed the new one, also seemed to be working better than previously...

All rather randomly seems to be working now. Thanks for the help, guys.
