Need a wedding photographer!

Hi all

I am slightly scared to post this, with the big W word.

I have been asked to do the photography at a wedding, nothing fancy they want:
- group shots after service (approx. 10 groups)
- cake cutting
- candids at champagne reception (approx. 30mins)

So not a lot really! They don't want anyone at the ceremony due to restrictions set by the church.

I have experience with birthday parties and christenings so gut reaction is to say no. However, I'd love to assist someone else to do this job!

Details
- 29th August from around 3.30pm to 5.30pm maybe
- Essex (IG8)
- Small budget £250 ish maybe
- Want some prints and a CD
- Want a photobook rather than album, but I'm happy to sort that out

Now I know lots of you are worth waaaay more than this. But I am hoping that someone with a bit of wedding experience and a website galley I can look at would be interested. I'd prefer someone with a Canon (edited to say: SORRY any brand will do) & a TP regular. But I guess that depends how many are interested.

Happy to hear all comments & suggestion (but please don't hurt me :shake:).

Bet it's the ones that aren't that are the first on the soapbox. :whistling:

To be honest its not that bad and worth a punt from the OP.. I bet you get loads of PMs.. In fact you where doing fine.. until it gets to this bit :)

??? :)

LOL, sorry, will take it out! It's just that I have a Canon and so I'd probably learn more/quicker from someone else with a Canon.

I was soooo nervous to come back on here & see what's been said! Really hoping I don't start a war

I can't see any reason for even a minor skirmish let alone a war :D

Had you been closer and I available, I'd have offered to help as I have a couple of others much closer to me in the past - sadly, I'd have been declined for being a Nikon user :(

Good luck with it

A "wedding" thread? Let the mocking commence!!! Oh, no, wait, this one is actually makes sense (apart from the brand snobbery!!)

Bit far for me to travel, but hope you find someone suitable:thumbs:

Thanks for the support all! I am replying to PMs!

DD - all Nikon cameras welcome and would have so loved to work with you!

Andy - half of me would love to, the other half knows how easy it is to screw it up

RDD - thanks anyway! No brand snobbery, honest! My technical knowledge isn't 100% so thought it'd be easier to work with someone with the same camera. I now see the error of my ways ;)

Rudesing, I'd have come to help you out but unfortunately I am already booked that day, good luck with it!

PMd - currently have no experience, however got a 2nd shooter role 18th July and then a friends wedding on August 28th.

Sadly am a Nikon user..... :D

Seriously, if you can do Christenings and Bday parties how is this really any different?

The candid shots and cake shots won't be anything you haven't done before, and the groups shots are pretty easy. Just get a list from the B&G and make sure they give you an usher to help organise them. Take several shots of each group just in case one doesn't come out right.

Does it matter that I edit on a mac?
Sorry, couldn't resist getting the 3rd argument going...

Could you elaborate on this a bit more, as it seems a bit off from the church, considering the sort of prices they charge for a ceremony :(

Hacker - thanks anyway! Good luck with your job

Thanks Graham, will keep you in mind! Have had an offer from a wedding-pro which I'm hoping will work out. Good luck with the weddings. Your FlickR photos are amazing!

LOL, I think I may regret my Canon comment for a long time

Yeah you should get someone with one of those for £250 easy

Ha ha, no offers at all from Canon peeps, let alone for £250

Not 100% sure. But seems groom believes that the only pics can be taken from the back, but I'm going to speak to vicar to confirm situ.

I have thought this one through a lot, I think.

- I have never taken photos of a couple (unless they are with cute kids) so would be making up poses as I go along.
- Never done pics of a wedding dress - understand getting the exposure right so detail shows if difficult
- Never taken pics of a group of more than 5 ish people
- Haven't got a lens to fit in a group of 100 people outside the church
- More pressure & expectations at a wedding
- I'm chicken!

It's all those off white lenses ...... :runaway: ...... clash with the Wedding Dress .....

I'm a Nikon user ...... can't take photos ....... so this rules me out !!!!!

Yep, bound to. To be fair it was a sensible request, but I find that you can learn off each other no matter what you shoot. I was being childish earlier and pretty unhelpful, sorry about that.

Buy some wedding magazines and have a look in them, hell, i'll even PM you my login and password so you can look at my wedding photos :)

Speak to the bride and ask if its possible to spend a few hours soon with her in the dress so you can get used to the settings needed?

5 or 100, you're always going to get one being silly (in our group shot my wifes ex boss is grabbing his girlfriends boobs) or someone looking away. Just be brave enough to speak up and get everyone's attention. Hire a lens or just don't do such a big group shot.

If the B&G don't mind you being un-experienced and nervous just try your best :)

Saying that, I will be exactly the same in 4 weeks at a friends and I'm not the pro :p

Quick update!

I'm really pleased to say I'm going to be working with boyfalldown on the wedding.

I will definitely be getting some wedding magazines too, that's a great idea.

Will post some pics afterwards

No worries, I thought you were being amusing!

Looking forward to seeing some snaps!

Good luck, hope all goes well, and hope you have fun

Thanks!
