Need some help from the Iphone buffs please!

Hi all,

I have just spent the morning on the phone to o2 about my reception/service.

Bottom line is when I switch 3g on I get no service, when iturn it off and go back to 2g I get full signal no problem.

Another iphone 3g user in the office has full signal and a 3g connection. :shrug::thinking:

They have recommended I do a reset all settings which I don't want to do right now as I'd need to configure all my mail, calender and contacts settings again as I sync with gmail/google and my laptop is at home.

I am hoping that its some queer network cell problem and when I get home all goes back to normal, I get 3g in East GRinstead no bother.

I was just wondering if any of you peeps have had any similar problems, or have any ideas.

I just leave 3G on. If the network isn't strong enough it automatically reverts to 2G.

I would just turn on 3G and see if it picks up the network after a few mins. Also, try placing it next to the other iphone that has strong 3G signal, to see if it is a problem with your location.
 
Thats just it, if I don't trun off 3g is doesn't revert back, i just get the no service message. Also I have sat it next to the other iphone and the other one has no issues. He has had calls and txts all morning and he is only a few meters from my desk.

So Frustrating!!!
 
Maybe a firmware glitch have you updated to the latest version?
 
I'm running 3.0 yes.

Yep, standard reset has also been done - twice.

I can't work out whats going on, it was fine last night. Maybe the thunderstorm has confused it!!
 
How do you turn off 3G? Can't find a switch in the settings app anywhere :(

EDIT - Never mind, found it now :)
 
For those who don't know, its settings -> General -> Network -> move the enable 3g slider to off.
 
Yep, I was stupidly looking in the "Phone" section.
In response to your original question, it's probably an glitch with the cell. I've seen similar problems on previous 3G handsets which eventually just magically fixed themselves.
I'm assuming the std reset powers the phone off and on again? If not, try that. I know it's a bit of an "IT Crowd" suggestions, but it may work.

I have tried all of the above now, to no avail. :bang:

I can only hope that getting back to East Grinstead (out of the current cell) will sort the problem out. If not, I'll head to the o2 shop I bought it from and try and blag a 3Gs as a replacement. I think pigs may fly harrier jets before they willingly do that kind of swap out!!
