I'm still getting the hang around my camera.

This photo is straight off the camera with no processing

Spoton.jpg

I think its quite a good shot no blur light is quite good

But this one

Notsospoton.jpg

Was taken straight after and its all blur and doesn't look right atall

(Its a paintball marker my other hobby and i thought it would be good to get some pic's)

I get this alot with pic's i taken what is causing it. Is it just i don't have a steady hand or is there anything (settings) i can do to sort it out

Any help would be good

Thanks

Rich

That bottom pic has a shutter speed of 1 second. Far too slow to be handholding!

The ISO was 800 and the aperture was f/5.7. You need to either raise the ISO or lower the aperture to get a faster shutter speed.

The 1st pic is half a second exposure too, also way to slow to handhold. Your shutter speed should be at least equal to the focal length, so in these cases the focal length was 55mm so your shutter speed needs to be at least 1/60, preferably higher like 1/80

Hi Rich,

Were you using hand held? The second photo has a shutter speed of 1 second so could be motion blur. You're already at an ISO of 800 so you might want to increase ambient light and / or go for a wider aperture if possible.

Hi Rich,

In the second shot you seem to have dialled in +1.00 exposure compensation - this has had the result of increasing your shutter speed to 1 second.
If you're shooting handheld it's no surprise that you've got some blur there at that speed.

I'm not familiar with the controls on the 1000D, but perhaps you've accidentally nudged something between shots.

I was using the AV mode so i assume the iso can be changed

How did you get that info

Indoors, you really need to be using your highest ISO and largest aperature. Although it looks bright enough, it's deceitful. Anything over 1/20 and your likely to get blur in your shot

Yeah i was hand held so

Ambeint lighting do u mean room light ?

From the EXIF info contained embedded in the jpg.
If in AV mode you need to adjust the aperture to its widest, so the lowest number. With your lens, this proabably still wont be fast wnough, so you will also need to raise the ISO, up to maybe 1600.

In Dim light this still probably wont be fast enough. This is where you need flash or a wider aperture lens

Sorry, yes I do.

To answer your other question the pictures contain EXIF data that can be looked at to see a lot of info on the camera and how it was set up.

That is exactly what i think is this issue i cant get the aperture any lower and add more light

Thanks

:shrug::shrug: i must of pressed it by mistake

Yes thats the issue, you still have some room to raise the ISO, but that still wont give you enough for a decent handheld shot.

The only way is flash, more ambient light or a lens with a wider aperture.

Wider Aperture = More Light =Clear shot

Nifty Fifty maybe might give a better shot?

Certainly will help yes, although remember the wider the aperture, the shallower the depth of field will be,so you will have less in focus throughout the frame.

Even with a 50mm f/1.8 you'll still need a high ISO in dim light to get a handholdable speed.

Cos he posted from an iPhone or mobile I expect and didnt change the tag.

Sorrys guys year i did cant change it either so

Just one more question. If i am on AV mode i cant change the Shutter speed so am i right in saying the next thing would be try to add more light or change the F number

Sorry for all the questions i must come across so stupid

You cant change the shutter speed in Av, no as its aperture priority. This chooses the best exposure possible with the aperture you have set.
To get a faster shutter speed in Av, add more light I.E flash/ambient, open up the aperture or raise the ISO

Has no one mentioned using a tri-pod or have I skipped through the posts too quickly, being the lazy ole git I am. :D

Nope they havent :D

Or use a tripod!

Btw your first one is also blurred and the light is yellow, deffo get at least a £25 tripod and adjust the lighting balance.

Used to call em paintball guns too!

That what i call them but didnt know if the word "Gun" was allowed. i know some places are funny about that

Yeah im looking at tripod now and maybe a extra flash but thats opening a whole load of more stuff i know nothing about lol

Prepare your bank account for a hammering!

Dont buy a cheap tripod. In the long run you'll end up buying a good one on the first place, so just get it out of the way.
Try redsnapper for good quality but not ball breaking prices.

Oops yeah,I always get that wrong.

Sorry. I keep doing the same thing to myself!

Yes they are good. Ive just bought a RS-283 & RHS-12 Ball Head for £99 myself. I sold my £150 Manfrotto to get it.

TP members can get 10% off too, but Ill let you search for that one here on the forum. ;)
