Hey guys, I am fairly new to DSLR cameras.I have a Nikon D5000 that I really like.I have been taking alot of pictures and learning alot about it from books on digital photography. Now I would like to buy a wide angle lens for landscapes. Any ideas on one with a reasonable price. Thanks

hi - welcome.

You've got a nice camera - treat it to nice glass - NOT cheap glass - you can see the difference! :) How wide you looking for?

I dont really know alot about lens yet.I am hoping that there is one that would be good to start with until I learn a little more.

There's alternatives but a popular lens is the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM - so it often pops up in the used section for sale.

Thanks for the info, I'm sure I will be asking more questions. This is a very good forum.

good tip - buy used - just be careful - almost al my lenses were bought used :)

You could take several pics and stitch them to get as wide as you want with the lens you have now...

If you're looking for a wide angle then you want to be looking at the Sigma 10-20mm. It comes highly recommended. They do the f/4-5.6 and the f/3.5 - there's a bit of a difference in price but you're paying for faster glass and if you plan to keep the 5000d with it's cropped sensor then I'd recommend saving a little longer and getting the f/3.5.

The f/3.5:

the f/4-5.6

I own the Sony 11-18mm and my togging buddy has the Canon 10-22mm, both are decent lenses and I'd say that for landscapes we both use these lenses more than any other. It's also good fun for taking shots of other things and getting the wierd perspective as it tends to make items close up look larger than they are.

Good luck with it
