I used a Nikon D300+Tamron 90mm macro lens and lit it from above with a small hand held studio flash set at 1/4 power. I also had a silver reflector on the left hand side to chuck some light back in from that direction.
The free floating seed is actually mounted on a pin and photographed on its own, the pin is then removed in CS4 and the seed is added to the seed head photograph.
Its cheating a little bit but its the only way I could get everything in focus and the right place all at the same time.

Thanks again. I did try it with 2 seeds floating off which didn't work so I gess the saysing less is more is true.

Well it is a bit - but who cares!
Great shot - lovely lighting, and obviously a lot of effort has gone in so you could realise the image you wanted to capture
