After all the joy of completing a new pc build, whats the best way of making it secure. How did you set yours up and what do you use.

Avast! and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I then use common sense to keep it clean....

Avast

i then run spybot search and destroy and malwarebytes once every few months.

All free to use too :)

I set up mine by not going into porn sites
In seriousness, I use avast, spybot and ccleaner.
All 3 keep the puter in tip top shape.

i'm not blind, i just like big fonts.

Never heard them called fonts before...... :D

As Neil and Andy use Avast I thought I'd try it. It totally hosed my system, locked up partway through loading the desktop. Thank goodness for system restore! It's probably very good but won't play with my setup, even prevented my disk image from being able to load. Just make sure you use restore points and have a backup ready before you install just in case.

Did you remove any other virus protection before installing Avast?

Yes did that I thought it was a bit odd but I guess I have something that doesn't play well with Avast. I usually run MS Security Essentials and Malwarebytes and they work fine for me. I was just curious about Avast.

Never had that happen and also used Avast for a few years.

However it did become bloated towards the end of last year and slowed things down a tad.
