Warning - guitar porn...

This is the best damn guitar I think I've ever owned... Born in May last year, a nice shiny Les Paul Standard... I just had to share that!

Very sexy - you can't beat a 'proper guitar' - as I tell my son when he picks up my 20 year old, (this year), Les Paul.

Love the stripes(y)

Beats the hell out of these Japanese things:LOL:

Agreed, totally! :)

Tonally, this thing even sounds like a 50 year old guitar - fact. Wind the volume back and you have all the snap of the P90s you get on the original LP Juniors, but crank it and you're not a million miles away from a PAF...

This is about the 6th or 7th Les Paul I've ever owned. There are sentimental reasons behind getting it, but even if there weren't, this one's definitely a keeper...

I really wish I could play. My auntie plays the hell out of the guitar. If I had to be good at photography or a guitar I know what I'd pick :0

That is one nice guitar, les paul has to have the dirtiest roughest sound of any guitar i love it.
I do not play myself but spent many an hour round at a mates house listening to him practice and have a smoke or two.

There's nothing quite like it, I must admit! (y)

I had the luck of trying it through a smaller version of one of the amps I have at home, and this thing only gets real dirty when you start to push it a little, and when it growls, you know about it! But up to that point, it's so sweet that it's almost like it's singing!

What an absolute beaut :)

We had a copy of one of those guitars (I forget the manufacturer) and that was stunning to look at.

I could buy loads of guitars (funds allowing of course), I bought my 8 year old a black US SG Gibson - I just love looking at it. I want to get a blue ibanez like satch man used to have.

That's one lovely guitar. I always prefer LP's with no pickguard

Cheers guys... The more I play it, the less I want to put it down... Got a few ideas for new instrumental tracks bouncing around in my head at the moment, but want to get a couple of decent studios mics and try recording it acoustically - it really does sound that loud and that good, without even being plugged in...

As for the JS guitars, they're good... Ibanez have always been pretty good - I used to have one of the original Steve Vai Jems, but I'd happily have a Satch model any day of the week...

Very very nice for one so young Chris.

Most importantly - you're inspired to play.

PS

I had an Ibanez floral Jem back in the early 90's and a really full on BC Rich. Had their place in time I guess but not subtle.

I've two guitars left - my Gibson Accoustic (being of strum age now of course) and my rare 80's Metal 'shredder' Epiphone X1000 (let me confirm that model) which I'll never part with.

I've a minty Fender P bass under the bed in a case doing nothing that should really find a new home but it's so hard letting them go. Somehow they're more personal than camera equipment.

Of course I fancy a LP Custom now or a nice PRS. What the hell a Rickenbacker too but can't justify the cost being a resonsible parent (aherm)

Being such a great/stupid parent .........we bought our son a JS100 and then the Blue JS1, (on credit - as you do for your kids!)........he really could be rude with those through a full blown Marshall stack, but he always yearned for the Chrome Boy.

Then he discovered class with a Strat and my Gibbo. (y)

Unfortunately he decided one day that he didn't want to do it any more :bang:

One so young? I assume you mean the guitar, not the owner!

I loved the original Jems... a mate had the pink one as well as the floral one. You're completely correct - subtle, they ain't! Mine ended up with a new neck - rosewood with flourescent disappearing pyramid inlays... God, it was obscene! I had an old Kramer metalhead guitar too - a Focus 6000, I think it was...

Keep the P bass - if it's an American one, it'll hold its price. My two biggest regrets ever were selling a '76 Les Paul Deluxe (some of them used bodies that were left over from the 50's, so I've been told) and a '73 Tele Deluxe :bang:

This is my other main squeeze - not quite wearing its age so well (it's yet to see its tenth birthday), and seriously customised (Steve Vai pickups with a Tex Mex in the middle, more wiring options than you can shake a stick at, left handed trem arm, gold plated hardware including the trem, which is as rare as rocking horse sh!t, locking tuners...) but it's given me damn good service as far away as Mexico, the US, and all over Europe... PS if you ever get the chance to go to Cabo, GO! And pay a visit to Sammy Hagar's club there - it's awesome!

I can imagine worse guitars to be stuck with than the JS's! I was gonna buy one not so long back, but went for a Gretsch instead... (Yes, I know - slight difference! hahaha!) I can't imagine the tone from the chrome boy would be that great though - the gold paint on a LP Gold Top really strangles it, so Lord knows what a chrome finish would do...!

It's a shame when they give up though - one of my two wants to learn bass and drums, and the other one likes keyboards and vocals... I'm all for it, so I hope they can stick with it! There's nothing quite like stepping out on a stage, or even laying down a killer recording! (y)

That is a seriously nice LP Chris, it looks the nuts. My son has just got himself the Epiphone LP Custom in Black Cherry with Dirty Fingers pick ups and that sounds soooo good.

It IS the nuts! It plays like an absolute dream - easily the best Les Paul I've ever picked up, let alone owned. And plugged in and cranked? You'd better be sitting tight!

Those Epi's aren't half bad these days... I've heard them referred to as 'disposable Gibsons', but they're way better than that. Gibson also have their Japanese brand that you never see over here, called 'Orville' - they're meant to be a bit special. And the great thing about Epi's, Orvilles and even Tokai is that they're a brilliant way to get people playing, which can only be a good thing.

Excellent post!

Lovely axe. It's great when you find a guitar which fits you. I have always been a les Paul man, slash is one of my favs, unfortunately never been able to afford a proper gibbo so brought a jap tokai les Paul stuck some bareknuckle mules in and its a beast of a guitar however for some reason I recently tried a strat classic player and fell in love with it straight away and it fits me better than the tokai.

I know what you mean... I've always loved Gibsons - they ain't cheap, but they look so damn cool. I thought my main Strat, in the other photo, was a tone beast, and it is... But it can't hold a candle to the Les Paul - it's got a chambered body, so can really sing cos it resonates so well. I was gonna get a Tokai as well - they do look and feel great. I heard they originally got hold of a 58/59 LP and reverse engineered it down to the last detail - even the size of the tenon joint that holds the neck to the body... But this was an inheritance-buy, so it couldn't say anything other then Gibson on the headstock, really...

Beautifull bit of wood Rob, its what trees were born for!. Iv played parker fly's, strats, PRS's, jacksons...you name it but none of them stack up to my Les Paul. Just wondering do you have any vids on youtube of you playing?

Oh and Gandalf...I mean Stormcrow, you do need a Les Paul, everyone needs a Les Paul.

No vids of me playing this on the youtube yet - but you never know, soon, there may well be!

Dale - you have nothing to complain about at all - a Tele Thinline and a gorgeous pair of G&L's? One of which looks like it has a rather sweet swamp ash body... No Les Paul though - YET! Hahaha!

And I concur - trees were definitely made for building Les Pauls... Ok, AND Strats. Why else would they invent ash, maple, mahogany and rosewood?! And yes, guitars are needed WAY more than a picture on a wall. In fact, that's probably just where THIS particular one will end up...

Must admit I do love my G&L's also the Tele but I get urges and those urges need to be satisfied. One day I'll have a Les Paul but seeing as I'm still very much a beginner at the guitar it may have to wait until after I get a D800 :)

Get some vids up and lets see ya play! here's my youtube page, three classics and a slash cover.

Some great playing there I especially liked "By the Sword"

Thank you Dale, i do love that by the sword solo, as soon as i heard it i wanted to learn it. Its his best since guns imo, stick at it man the most rewarding thing you can do in life is to learn an instrument(y)

That's a cute LP Deluxe you got there, Andy... But I must admit, if I had another one (my very first LP was a wine red deluxe...) the first thing I'd do is take the humbuckers out and put P90's in - the best pickup ever made, I reckon... Cool vids too! Nice playing!

Here are some that I managed to dig out from a gig a few years ago - playing one of my Strats (when it was slightly more 'stock' condition!). All live, all without a net, so excuse any mistakes! (y)

Nice, love it, some awsome blues stuff going on there (y).

Lol you're not the first to say that about the humbuckers, the deluxe was a bit of a bomb when it came out and it only had a short run. I dunno i may yet change them out ,I have many years of playin yet...hopefully...touch wood!.

Cheers! (y)

It may have been a bomb, but that didn't stop them using some of the 1950's body stock they had left over for some of them, from what I've been told... IMHO, mini humbuckers work great on something like the Firebird, which is 99% mahogany, but they're probably a little too bright on something like a Paul... Unless you went the Dave Gilmore route and got a LP Special - think the solo in Another Brick In The Wall - P90's are absolute tone monsters!

Nah nothing special about my deluxe, i got it when i was 16 (15 years ago). I saw it in the yellow paper and snagged it for 500 quid if you can believe it!. Iv also got a Hummingbird authentic...apparently they lost the original pick guard and then re found it in 2002 and decided to release a limited run of hummingbird authentics with a copy of the original pickguard....mind you i paid 1200 for it. How do you embed youtube vids btw?

I've not read the whole thread and I don't play a guitar (or instrument) although I wish I could... But photo 2 looks great!

I love music and think it is a beauty of a photo.

500 notes? Wow! I woulda ripped the dude's arm off for that price! I've never really been into Gibson acoustics so much - I have a perfectly good Seagull which sounds about ten times as much as it cost me, and has warmed amazingly in the 20 years since I've had it...

You can embed youtube vids by typing in the tags, and putting the serial number of the vid (the bit in the url after 'watch?v=') in between the tags...

Thanks, Colin... It's a shot that I think suits the guitar quite well, with its curves and everything... the fact that it's a peach of a guitar kinda helps as well! :)

Ah nice one...why not post some vids Yeah i know what you mean about the gibson accoustics, i find i need to re string it quite often to keep it from sounding dull. It's an amazing guitar and it feels solid but i also have a 1970's Yamaha accoustic that sounds great too.
