Very very nice for one so young Chris.
Most importantly - you're inspired to play.
PS
I had an Ibanez floral Jem back in the early 90's and a really full on BC Rich. Had their place in time I guess but not subtle.
I've two guitars left - my Gibson Accoustic (being of strum age now of course) and my rare 80's Metal 'shredder' Epiphone X1000 (let me confirm that model) which I'll never part with.
I've a minty Fender P bass under the bed in a case doing nothing that should really find a new home but it's so hard letting them go. Somehow they're more personal than camera equipment.
Of course I fancy a LP Custom now or a nice PRS. What the hell a Rickenbacker too but can't justify the cost being a resonsible parent (aherm)
One so young? I assume you mean the guitar, not the owner!
I loved the original Jems... a mate had the pink one as well as the floral one. You're completely correct - subtle, they ain't! Mine ended up with a new neck - rosewood with flourescent disappearing pyramid inlays... God, it was obscene! I had an old Kramer metalhead guitar too - a Focus 6000, I think it was...
Keep the P bass - if it's an American one, it'll hold its price. My two biggest regrets ever were selling a '76 Les Paul Deluxe (some of them used bodies that were left over from the 50's, so I've been told) and a '73 Tele Deluxe :bang:
This is my other main squeeze - not quite wearing its age so well (it's yet to see its tenth birthday), and seriously customised (Steve Vai pickups with a Tex Mex in the middle, more wiring options than you can shake a stick at, left handed trem arm, gold plated hardware including the trem, which is as rare as rocking horse sh!t, locking tuners...) but it's given me damn good service as far away as Mexico, the US, and all over Europe... PS if you ever get the chance to go to Cabo, GO! And pay a visit to Sammy Hagar's club there - it's awesome!
Being such a great/stupid parent .........we bought our son a JS100 and then the Blue JS1, (on credit - as you do for your kids!)........he really could be rude with those through a full blown Marshall stack, but he always yearned for the Chrome Boy.
Then he discovered class with a Strat and my Gibbo.
Unfortunately he decided one day that he didn't want to do it any more :bang:
I can imagine worse guitars to be stuck with than the JS's! I was gonna buy one not so long back, but went for a Gretsch instead... (Yes, I know - slight difference! hahaha!) I can't imagine the tone from the chrome boy would be that great though - the gold paint on a LP Gold Top really strangles it, so Lord knows what a chrome finish would do...!
It's a shame when they give up though - one of my two wants to learn bass and drums, and the other one likes keyboards and vocals... I'm all for it, so I hope they can stick with it! There's nothing quite like stepping out on a stage, or even laying down a killer recording!
