Hi guys,,

I'm looking to buy a new laptop specifically for Photoshop, Lightroom and all the filters, plugins etc etc .. . I'm not fussed about gaming or anything like that, but i'd like it to run the photo packages without lag if that makes sense?

I'm trying to keep within a budget of £700 and i'm hoping to stick with an Intel Pentium chip as oppose to Celeron or AMD, plus plenty of RAM.

If you guys could recommend something to fit within that, I'd be very grateful plus maybe the best place to buy the suggested laptop.

Thanks in advance,
Kind Regards,
Moey!

Oddly, I'd just come here to ask the same question!

I brought an Acer something or other laptop 6 years ago for £260 with an excellent screen, I upgrded to a new Toshiba laptop in January this year and the screen seems really soft, no good for photo editing at all, luckily, my partner needs a new laptop so she's having my Toshiba and I'm looking for something decent...

First question, what size screen?
Second question, how portable? Ie size/weight/battery life.

Specs wise you need to look for a FHD screen at a minimum - that is 1920x1080 (toshiba use 1366x768 panels a lot). Make sure you get a matte IPS panel, glossy is rubbish for editing.
If you don't get 16Gb RAM supplied make sure there is a free slot to add extra memory up to 16Gb. 8gb is enough, but 16 is just better.
CPU and i5 6200u will probably do everything you need.
Storage. This is where I am always split. For speed nothing beats an SSD, they can really make the difference between a slow machine and a snappy device. But they are more expensive.

Thanks Richard, that's helpful, especially the bit about the panel and ram.
