New Nikon 80-400 is here!

lensrentals put up some initial thoughts on their blog - basically, a big improvement but overpriced at full retail.

Chop £1k off maybe. It'll be very interesting to see test results and user opinions all the same.

Hmmm Id save a whole lot and switch to a Sony and 70-400 if it were my main lens.

I took delivery of a few of these yesterday. It looks like a very good lens indeed; the focus is of course much faster than the old 80-400, the VR is pretty impressive, and the whole thing feels very well built.

Of course the price won't stay at £2500 - that's just for the people who must have it at any price - but it will be interesting to see where it ends up. I don't think it will come down to anywhere near the £1100 old 80-400 or the £1250 Canon 100-400; I reckon it will stick around the same price as the 70-200/2.8 VR, about £1700 or £1800.

At least Nikon users now have an equivalent lens to the Canon 100-400, and the IS will be better:)
