Hi Brian,

To start a new one, just copy the information from the previous challenge and add it to a new post. All you need to change are the bits that tell you what the topic is. e.g. the title of the new challenge would be...

New Old Film Challenge #277 'Brian's Challenge'

And then just copy all the following into the post, just changing the details in the first line and the closing date.

Pictures featuring balloons, beach-balls, dinghies, lilo's - you get the idea. If someone needs to bust a lung to fill it with air, then it's fair game for this challenge.

As usual the following rules apply:
1) Must be taken by you
2) Must have been taken on film, notwithstanding which, digital post processing is allowed
3) Must have been taken and developed prior to the start date of this challenge

Discussion in the discussion thread (link below) rather than this entries thread, please.

Please include details of the camera, lens, film etc and anything else of relevance, if you can possibly remember the details that far back. Perhaps you could also explain you reasons for the choice of image?

Entries close some time on midnight Tuesday 12 May 2026, following which a voting page will be opened with a three day voting window.

Please keep all discussion and comments in the "new old film discussion thread" https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/new-old-film-challenge-discussion-thread.698995/page-25

Thanks challenge up

H'mm if there not more entries for the latest challenge, I would suggest the challenge is discontinued?

It has had a good run.

Oscar wild might have said:- the only thing worse than losing is winning o_O.......maybe some (many) members don't enter because if they win they have to set up a new challenge.

Before the world wide web we had usenet and bulletin board systems, they waned when the www came along and gave us forums, then we got smart phones and social media which have diminished the use of forums and now we have AI at the top of every google search, "what's the best lens for ..." AI will tell you, "How do i do ... in photoshop" AI has a quick response.

I think there will be a period when forums become very quiet because people will never bother with a link to something like TP when what they need is in the box at the top of google. The issue will come when no one is posting answers on forums and the like for new gear and software so there is nothing for AI to scrape for its responses. Where will AIs in future will get up-to-date information if no one is posting it on open forums?

Maybe this might help reduce the AI reliance?

I don't want to remove AI from my life, I use it a lot and any individual doing something won't stop almost everyone else taking the AI response rather than posting their question on a forum.
