I tend to use Lightroom for 99% of the post processing I do, so I have not upgraded from Lightroom CS3 yet.

Having downloaded a trial of Elements 9 I'm wondering why I would bother.

It has layers, masks, content aware fill and loads of other great features, why pay for CS5?

1.75Gb download for the trial

My Elements 7 folder is less than 500Mb, I hope version 9 is worth the extra 1.2Gb space

Does it have the full version of ACR that you get with LR3 / CS5? (using the "2010" de-bayer methods)

No idea but I get that with Lightroom

Yeah, LR3 didn't really offer my anything I needed over LR2 so I didn't upgrade, so was hoping Elements 9 might be a nice route into the latest ACR :)

Do you have any Sony ARW files left? If you get a chance, could you open them in Elements 9 and see if the new improve NR for Sony kicks in?

This is why:

If you get a chance, I'd love to know if Elements 9 offers that, it would be much appreciated :)

No problem, give me half an hour or so

Opened with elements 9 on Mac - ACR 6.1, tweaked levels a bit of noise reduction. I don't know if 6.1 is the lates version with the de-bayer method though

Thanks, not sure if that is using the latest... I'd would have assumed Elements 9 had it from the get-go.

Cheers for doing that :)

According to Andy's link though, even if you've got ACR6.2 in PSE you don't get the option of the 2010 processing which is where all the improvements are meant to be.

Thanks Andrew - I think you've gone a little on the green side there!

I think I might need to see if a trial version of Elements 9 is available - cheers Pete and Andrew for messing with my raw file :)

Elements 9 has the same new noise reduction as LR3 does minus the fine tuning sliders of contrast and detail in the noise reduction section of LR3, saying that those slider do not make a lot of difference anyway.

OK I may have been downbeat on PSE9 elsewhere in the forum, but have now had a more thorough play with the content aware spot healing brush - Damn! It's good!

PSE9 comes with ACR 6.1, but 6.2 installs easily enough, once you've found where to put it

Organiser seems to be one hell of a resource hog still...

Worth the upgrade? I just did.... (Amazon.... )
