Watching the 135mm 1.8 with interest
If the 24-70 is anything like their other "Art" glass it should be good, although I fear it might suffer the same fate as the 24-105, excellent IQ but built like a brick compared to the other similar lenses from Nikon, Canon and even Pentax.
Its almost exactly (about 1cm shorter I think) the same size as the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC. The Nikon is 5cm longer and 250g heavier than the Tamron. The 24-70 VR is over 1KG - 'hopefully' this might be less. Looks quite compact compared to the Nikon too.
I do wish they'd come up with a modern version of the 100-300 F4 with stabilisation, I'd buy that as soon as it hit the shelves if it was anywhere near as nice as the old one.
The new Tamron lenses have a "dock" too.I still think the addition of a dock is a master stroke. All things being even between lenses of different brands, then it's enough to sway me towards sigma.

How do the Sigmas hold up agaunst general wear and tear? The surfaces look kind of prone to scratches etc?
@Sir SR How do you find the 50?
And huge and heavy ......
Downside is that it's expensive.
Well the 85 is around £1,200 I can't see it being any less than thatThe 135mm will be a good addition for Nikon shooters, be interested to see what price it comes in at.
I'm finding the 100-400mm a very odd lens too, relatively slow aperture. I'm sure Sigma have done their research but I do wonder who will choose this lens over the other options. I still wish someone would make a 400mm f4 for Nikon.
Well that's just realigning UK prices now exchange rates are much lower...Just a heads up folks, Sigma is raising prices come March 1st.
Probably looking at around a 20% hike so buy now if you can do so.
Correct, best to buy nowWell that's just realigning UK prices now exchange rates are much lower...
Yeah I get that but it's just that it's f6.3, I don't understand why they didn't make it f5.6. Yes it's only 1/3 stop but it's disappointing (IMO). Had it matched the Nikon I'm sure it'd be a clear winner, as it is I don't think they'll take as much of a chunk away from the Nikon sales as they might have done. But it's all just speculation on my behalfOne reason I can think of for the 100-400mm, is their giving an option to people who may find the 150-600mm too heavy? 100-400mm is a good option then for Nikon shooters as we don't have anything cheaper in this length (80-400mm Nikon is very expensive) and its a option over the 70-300mm providing it's not too heavy...... IIRC Canon have a 100-400mm lens which is also expensive.
If its a good lens they could possibly coin in.
Are exchange rates 20% lower?Well that's just realigning UK prices now exchange rates are much lower...
How much have the rates dropped?Well that's just realigning UK prices now exchange rates are much lower...

Well in June 2016 you got 1.45 dollars for every pound now you get 1.25 dollars for each pound. Closer to 15% admittedly, but the UK prices for some lenses have been relatively cheaper for a while e.g. Sigma 50mm Art is $950 (£805 once VAT and duty is taken into account) vs £600 UK price. Are exchange rates 20% lower?
Well the 150-600mm C was around £1200 on first release IIRC, so I wouldn't expect the 100-400mm to be under £500. However, they do have to bear in mind their own 150-600mm so maybe it will.To keep price down and be much cheaper than the others.
I just bought another Sigma C 150-600mm and it's now at £699.00, my other two were £739.00. You would expect this new one to be cheaper? For 100mm more than the 70-300mm I would expect this to be sub £500.00, but you never know with a new price premium.
It a lens which interests me due to my problems. I find my 70-300mm a tad too short when out, after using the 600mm at home.
Makes you wonder why Apple, Canon and Nikon raised their prices by 25-30% thenWell in June 2016 you got 1.45 dollars for every pound now you get 1.25 dollars for each pound.
