New telephoto on a Budget for D5000

Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR Lens so I ordered this for £234.98 delivered from Amazon.co.uk

It will compliment my 18-55 VR Nikon kit lens. And to be honest I found the kit lens to be really good lens in comparison to the cost.

I have been looking at feedback on the 55-300 and its been pretty positive. Checked a load of shots on Flickr and lots and lots of exif info to get a broad comparison against the 70-300 VR ................and although I cannot really afford the 70-300 VR I think I will be more than happy at that price.

I've got that lens for my D3100, and it certainly does what it says on the tin. It's obviously not going to be quite as good at the extremes as its more expensive brethren, but I'm very happy with it and I doubt you'll be disappointed.

OK, Well here goes.


A few taken in Edinburgh on a crappy dull Scottish day...............but............impressed so far. Still need to get to grips with taking shots handheld and faster. Have been mainly shooting landscape or night shots so this is a bit of a swing for me................

and that robin again who was lightning fast.....

That's all at the moment but any help on setting would be good and helpful.

I mainly shot at F8 and centre point for metering but sure I could do better.
