What would you recommend as a starter in photography. Just bought cannon rebel xs would like to do some macro so Raynox DCR-250 is on the cards and a Canon 50mm F1.8 MK II lens for portrait .next what type of flash should I get I know they go into hundreds so was looking at something that would be good but not expensive, is it best to get a flash that tilts . Last one what general lens for all round would you recommend ..thanks for any comments
 
Canon 420EX ii is a good one for starters. I have been using this flash from last few months. Used in night club photography and as a fill in flash. Works really well.
But if your budget allows buy the 530 ex one. I have heard a lot of good reviews about it. But the 430 ex ii is also a brilliant piece of kit for the amateurs.

I went for the 430ex ii, great bit of kit. That said, part of me thinks it's worth figuring out how to use the camera without flash first, then buy one.
