next sensible steps?

I curently have a canon 50D

I am either looking to do one of the following.

Upgrading to some L glass. Along with these two thoughts:

1. Upgrading the 50D to......? I dont know, probably one of the 1D series, is the II too old to the 50D and should I go or the III?

2. Keep the 50D and buy a second 50D as a spare/ to use with 2 different primes.

I quite like the thought of number 2 to be honest. Just out for your opinions please.....
 
1. I like this. 1DsII or 1DIII are nice choices - same noise performance, same pixel density, one is 16mp the other 10fps. 1DII is probably a tad old, 1DIIN would be the oldest to consider (less aggressive AA filter compared to non-N).

2. If you were to get 5D, then at least you would get more flexibility with your primes. You are in for a pleasant surprise when you upgrade to one of those 'badly outdated' xD cameras.

Thanks for the reply, when you mean a 5D do you mean along side the 50D to get more flexability etc with the different sensor sizes?

Possibly, it depends what you can afford or need.
 
What do you shoot? if its portraits / landscapes etc, then the larger sensor is the way to go, probably a 5d and 'L' short focal length lenses.

However, if your 50D can't keep up with focus speed, you'll want some form of 1D or a 7D and some fast 'L' glass for best IQ.

Either way, hope Santa's feeling generous!

I'm quite tempted going more towards the 5d ii as I am heading into portraits more now, but still like the 1.6 of the 50d.

I don't think Santa will be feeling to good about the price ...... I will have to write a nice text .... Lol
 
Can you go for the 5D2 for portraits and keep the 50D as a second body, or when you need some more reach? Do you need to sell the 50D to raise some cash? What is your existing lens line up? You say you're getting into portraits, but what else do you do?

If you can give some more info along with the first post about what you want to gain, what you mainly shoot, budget and existing gear, I'm sure people can help you spend your £££££'s!!
 
I would keep the 50d along with the 5d ii.

Currently I use canon 17-55mm 2.8 for portraits, which I would sell to fund an L lens to go on the 5d.

I also have 10-22mm which is brilliant on my 50d.

Also have a 70-300 IS, which am aiming to upgrade to 70-200 2.8 ii and also a 100-400mm L

The new L portrait lens I'm not sure yet, I wouldn't mind the 24-70, 24-105, 85 1.8 and could also use the 70-200.

That's the rough plans anyways.

I'm starting to get more portrait style jobs through so it's swinging more that way at the minute.

Wouldn't mind the 100mm L macro to, but that would probably be the last upgrade
