Hi been on here for a couple months and must say enjoying the experience vastly, so I have Canon 400d, kit lens, sigma 70-300, cokin 49mm macro and canon 35-80, I have tripod, mono pod about 10gb in cards, wifely is getting me a new bag for xmas, I was going to spend the first 12 months trying all aspects of photography to see which one I like best then concentrate on that.
so looking at what i've got what would you buy next? I've also got numerous books which I'm ploughing through all recommended off here.
I know its a bit of how log is a bit of string question but all advice is most welcome

Maybe consider hiring different lenses so that you can try different areas before committing.

Our resident lens hirer outer will be able to help:)

You have asked a very broad question and we could reply with all kinds of wierd and wonderful kit.

What you need to be asking yorself, is what you'd like to try next. Look at what kit you then have and look at what be a benifit to where you want to go.

alright mate..fellow scouser here! best thing i could say is probably not to spend any more money on anything, especially lenses or similarly expensive stuff. the worst mistake i made was spend a wedge of cash on a camera, a bunch of lenses at various focal lengths, tripod, monopod etc etc etc..and not really much idea about what i wanted to shoot. it cost me a small fortune in buying things because i saw photos someone had posted with a particular lens or whatever and i thought it looked good, so i must have it.

what i did recently was to take the last 6 months or so going out and about with just the cam and a couple of lenses to cover a fairly wide range of lengths, including macro..and then after going through processing, binning (archiving) stuff i didn't like and so on, i looked at my collection of 'keeper' images. that then gave me a good idea of where my interest lay. once you have that, you can plan future purchases to meet your interests and expections a lot better - thus saving you buying all kinds oof kit and not using anything very much.

Hi thanks for the replys was thinking along thelines of filters, flash or some lights, have done bike sports which I was a fan of before so love that just tried landscaples which I wasn't a fan of but I am know, going for the night shot of Liverpool from Birkenhead you all know the one. and I think protraits next, done a bit of macro which I enjoyed so keep the advice coming
Many Thanks

interested in getting that shot of the pool myself. any idea of the best spot to take it from?

You seem to have a good range of equipment, the question to ask, is what have you found lacking/missing with what you already have? is there anything in particular stopping you getting the shot your after?

Personally I don't think you should buy anything apart from maybe a flash gun, get out use the extensive kit you have and then decide where it is limiting you. When you know what shots you want to get but can't then you will know what kit you need.

Most of us on here have far more gear than we actually need ad alot of us are always thinking about the next purchase when what we should probably concentrate on is the pictures!

I was looking around the woodside ferry but a bloke a our camera club said he knows a good spot, will keep you posted.

This is the problem I have at the mo nothing springs to mind only time I had a problem was last week at the bike show could have done with a flash gun, so that might be the way to go.

hmmm...any details on the camera club? been thinking about joining one...
