Nifty Fifty Alternatives?

Hi everyone,

I was looking at getting a Nifty Fifty to take some pictures of a band at a local gig. However, this won't auto-focus on my D40 I was wondering if there are any alternative lenses out there, in the same sort of price range, which will auto focus?

Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is fab.

But not in the same price range. However it's much better in low light.

Nikon/Cannon 50mm f/1.8 lens. Used to go for around £50 but is now slightly more expensive, about £60'ish to buy.

Nikon Nikkor AF-D 50 mm f/1.4 can you not get a converter.

Its an f/1.4 version. It still won't AF.

I think there's a 50mm Nikon AF-S version due out very shortly that will AF on a D40/D40X/D60.
Might cost a kidney like..but.......kidneys are overated if you don't get smashed every three days..

Looks like you may be stuck with using the flash then and your kit lens..desperate measures an all that, at least you will get some pictures for your mate and his band.
