I've recently updated my Photoshop to the latest version and during the update, I lost my NIK Collection. This was the old Google FREE issue of the NIK Collection. I still have the collection showing as being there in my apps, can anyone help with how I can get it to work with Photoshop please?
I tried clicking on the old .exe file and that indicates that my old version can be used with Lightroom but Photoshop doesn't show in the list of programmes. Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Not sure but tbf, while I clung on the free one for ages, when I did stump up for a new version I was pleased I did in the end, there is a bit more to it, especially colour efex, that on balance I find useful. Maybe an opportunity to try the free trial?

AI Overview

Older legacy versions of Nik Software (such as the free 2015 Google Nik Collection 1.2.11) are not officially compatible with modern versions of Adobe Photoshop, and newer versions will often fail to detect or load them automatically. [1, 2]

How to Make Old Nik Software Work
You can still run legacy Nik plug-ins in newer Photoshop versions (like Photoshop 2024, 2025, or 2026) using a manual file-copy workaround: [1, 2, 3]
    • Copy the Plugin Folder: Locate your existing Google Nik Collection folder from an older installation (or install the legacy version on an older PC/virtual machine or older Photoshop build like CS6).
    • Paste into Photoshop Plugins: Copy that folder and paste it directly into the modern Photoshop plug-ins directory (e.g., C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop [Version]\Plug-ins on Windows).
    • Restart Photoshop: Restart the application and look for the filters under the Filter menu. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Limitations and Risks
    • Inconsistent Stability: Because the old code is unmaintained, some filters (like Viveza or Silver Efex) may freeze, crash, or fail to apply effects properly depending on your operating system (Windows vs. macOS) and Photoshop version. [1, 2, 3]
    • Layer Handling: Older versions may not support modern non-destructive layer workflows well; changing settings to apply effects directly to the active layer rather than a separate layer can sometimes prevent errors. [1, 2]

I've just looked at my PC using file manager, my Google NIK collection is located with the following path, in my "User" AppData, Roaming, Adobe, Adobe Photoshop 2025 settings, in a folder named Google.

Strangely when I try to locate the same path within Photoshop 26 (version 27.11.0) I can't see a similar path.

But the NIK collection is within that version of Photoshop. I can see in Photoshop Help menu a menu option "About Plugins" which list each NIK and Topaz modules.

I suspect I've set my Photoshop to retain the old version and NIK etc. these when there's an upgrade.
