I had a 7000 and 7100 and I can't say how good the 18-35 1.8 art lens was! It was better than any other lens I'd ever used! I used it for portraits

I borrowed one off a mate on a night shoot and took a pin sharp 5 minute exposure shot of the stones at avebury and I went straight out and bought the lens! View attachment 38216

If you trust DXO then there are no super sharp 50mm on the D7100.
I'm in a similar loop (which is how I fell across your post).
Presuming your not super rich and writing off the Zeiss,
Based purely on sharpness, DXO will have you go for Sigma 50-150 2.8 DC, Sigma 18-35 1.8 DC
The top overall scoring lenses from DXO are Sigma 3.5 1.4 DG, 85 1.4G or 85 1.8G
If you want the 85 1.8 you have a couple days left to get the cashback
