Afternoon Folks,

Can I use my Nikon 18-200 on my F4 without causing damage to either?

If it's safe will it function correctly and would I be right that it would be approximately 28-300 on the film camera?

Thanks

It'll fit fine, but its only a crop lens, and won't fill the film frame. No point using this combo.

No, it'll still be an 18-200.

It works like a 28-200mm without VR on F4.
No it doesn't. You're right about the F4 not supporting VR. But there's no way you can describe it as equivalent to a 28-200mm zoom, given that the image doesn't even fill the frame.

No. It's an 18-200mm lens whichever way you look at it.

Except it doesn't fill the frame on a full-frame camera.

What's confusing people here is the difference in crop factor, however an 18mm lens is an 18mm lens, it doesn't matter what camera it's attached to.

The angle of view it gives on a crop sensor is equivalent to 27-300mm on a full frame.

There's still no point in using this DX lens on a FX (full-frame) camera, except apparently it will fill the frame at 200mm focussed at infinity, if this is any use.

Use the right lens for the job
