Nikon 18 35mm f3.5-4.5D IF-ED AF Is it a good lens?

I have been offered this lens for what i think is a good price of £260 but am not aware of it's quality, any advice welcome.
it appeals as i shoot with a D700.
 
not worth £260.

Get the Tamron 17-35, better lens, wide and cheaper.
 
Thank you, i appreciate that but i am unable to find a Tamron 17-35 so just wondered if the Nikkon was as good.
