Hi, just wondering if anyone has used this lens? What opinions do you have re IQ and suitability for wedding shoots?

I know it scores well in reviews, however I trust the opinions on here :)

TIA,

Alan

Awesome lens. Not really much else to say. I had one and loved it, I then moved up to the 24-70 when I got my D3, but TBH the 28-70 was just as good as the new lens.

I havnt used the 28-70 myself, but to be honest, the reviews elswhere are going to be as good as on here. It's an awsome lens, in all respects.

Thats cool cos I just bought a minty second hand one last night :D

Due to be delivered tomorrow :banana::banana:

One excited puppy :D

LOL @ Joe T :D

Its here and its huuuge

Wow what a beast of a lens - by far the biggest short range tele I have ever held :D

Simon TALM - I got it second hand from a very nice chap in London, via a well known auction site :)

I would rather not say how much I paid, in case I find it doesn't suit and I want to sell it on ;)

First impressions apart from looking for my gym membership, are that it is built like a tank and that any filters are gonna cost an arm and a leg!!

I think I am in

I want one :)
I heard one report that this lens is not so good on digital. Is this true?
Is anyone able to comment on its worthiness for a D300 and a D3.

I used mine on my D2x, and then on my D3 until the 24-70 arrived, and had no issues. Always one of the sharpest lenses I had. It is an awesome lens, I only swapped mine for the 24-70 because I got a deal on a D3 package, otherwise I would have kept it. In fact I think the feel of the 28-70 is better.

Very good lens - was never keen on it for crop bodies, but came back into its own when the D700 came out.

Flare? - well assuming you use the (large!) lens hood, this shouldn't be a problem.

Get it mate, it's an awesome bit of kit. Never noticed any problems with flare myself.
I don't do wide so will probably never need to consider the 24-70. The Beast does it all.

Thanks Andy :) (Not selling one by any chance are you )

I don't have one anymore (sold mine last year here to get a Carl Ziess 24-70) - I guess Nikon owners tend to sell to get the Nikon 24-70.

If you are happy with 28mm on the wide end, then optically the upgrade from 28-70 f/2.8 AF-S to 24-70 f/2.8 AF-S is quite marginal.

I also prefer the build quality of the older lens - it looks "classier"

Thanks guys. The extra 4mm on the wide end doesn't bother me, and I prefer the look of the build quality too, and I can save a few £100. Wanted Ad placed!

Got one on the front of my D300s & I'm amazed....

I couldn't afford a Nikon 24-70 but got a good deal on Nikons 28-70 "beast" & got that instead, also handy if I ever went & upgraded to FF in the future.... Get one if you can find one

Two years on from my OP and all I can say about the beast is that I still own it and use it for 60-70% of my shots. It remains my default go to lens. The IQ is stunning and I have never had any major problems with flair, but then I rarely shoot directly into the sun....:)

I've use the 28-70afs for ages - and on the D3 it's superb.

A couple of friends have the 24-70 and each, independatly, have told me that's it way ahead of the 28-70.... but I make my living from photography - and the 28-70 is then lens I use for 75% of my day to day work....

I have had it rebuilt twice after drops - and still sweet....
