Here's a quick test of the new 85mm F1.4 lens. Shot at F1.4, ISO 400

Take it from me, for sharpness wide open the lens wipes the floor with the D version.

Can't see any difference in the quality of bokeh but will compare further.

Focusing is average - certainly not fast. But I find it more accurate than the previous model.

Would I recommend it - yes! Sharpness is improved and focusing accuracy is much better. It also "feels" like the minimum focusing distance is shorter. Contrast is also better and images are brighter. My biggest disappointment with the older version was sometimes images were quite dark and contrast was lacking. This one improves on that.

Seems impressive, do you get to use it much at weddings? Thought you would favour the 24-70?

The 24-70 is more flexible Simon but, given the choice and time, I would always go for the faster, longer lens. Sometimes I have to force myself to be less lazy and get out a fast prime instead. Taking time with a lens like this is always worth it IMHO.

BTW - I just noticed how good the CA is with the lens. If you pixel peep Cassie's whiskers you can see a little but it's minimal :)

Watch out, you'll cut yourself with that there lens ;)

Niiice but seriously not cheap......

Know what you mean! When I use my 50mm 1.4 (which I do for 80% or so of paid work), I feel like a 'proper tog' as I need to think and move a lot more. With the zoom on I get lazy!
