nikon d100 - upgrade to - d3000?

hello all,

i currently have a d100

should i upgrade to a d3000?

will it take better picture's?

any info would be great
 
If you are talking about D300, and my opinion is yes. But not D3000.

Maybe D3000 has a stronger CCD and chip, however, I believe that D100 is much more like a DSLR.

What's wrong with the D100 that you hope a D3000 will fix for you?

Have you tried uploading a Custom Curve to your D100? This can do really nice things to D100 output if you want "better pictures"
 
where do you get that from?

also was mainly looking @ higher - 10.2MP output
but does this not help???
 
normally don't go over a4 size

not a great idea... especially since the d3000 doesn't autofocus with older (non AF-S) lenses.

there are some features in the newer nikons which improve over the d100 (e.g. better colour & ADR), so if you think you'd benefit from these, i'd rather suggest a used d90 or d300. this will retain more 'professional' handling than a d3000, and allow you autofocus wiht older nikon AF lenses. I wouldn't upgrade just to get a higher pixel count - usually that's not really the limiting factor.
 
I agree with DiddyDave. The D100 was my first and only digital camera. As such, there is nothing wrong with it. I don't use mine (or any digital any more) but that is for reasons other than quality.

Obvious 'new toy syndrome' is very perssuasive and I am as guilty as anyone from suffering with this.

At the time I bought mine there was a feature on a UK wedding photographer in Amateur Photographer magazine. The photographer was saying that they used to use Fuji S3 cameras but changed to D100s because they considered that they were the perfect camera for weddings.

Well... that was only five or six years ago. Obviously technology has moved on from then with better high ISO performance, higher resolutions, faster AF, etc. but it will be just as good now as it was five years ago.

sure - just choose the Custom Tone Curve or one of the presets.

The camera has this extra memory allocated to load a Curve so you might as well use it.

For JPEG output it can make a very big difference - I can make a D100 look like a D300 with a curve (hint - do a mid-tone boost, clip black levels (Nikon's noise hiding trick ;)) and do a "dip" at the top of the curve for a nicer highlight rolloff)
