Nikon D2X "Err" Message?

Hi Guys, I've just purchased a second-hand D2X (25/11/09) from a well known photo retailer here in the UK.

Problem is - I keep getting the "Err" message whenever I take the first shot after switching the camera on. Once the first shot has been written to the card all seems fine, but if you switch it off for an hour or so, I get the "Err" message again.

It does this regardless of lens in use, Yes I've clean the terminals!
Yes! I've tried using a brand new battery.
Yes! I've got the latest firmware.
Yes! I've heard this is a common problem on the D2H

Has anyone here had similar problems with their D2X?
Is it an easy fix or should I ask for a full refund?
The shutter count for this camera is less than 38K. Surely the shutter hasn't gone already?

Any help or advice will be much appreciated.
Cheers

I had exactly the same issue on one of mine. Have you tried wriggling the lens on the mount, while it is still attached. See if the ERR message disappears, on mine it did, and then came back again when I relaxed the grip on th elens, which is how I narrowed down my search. It was a contact error on mine, which was cleared up by using a pencil eraser gently on the contacts, both lens and body, then wiping with a cotton bud soaked (with a drop of on..) lighter fluid, but any alcohol will do. I have some very nice quintuple distilled gin here, that would work too!

Failing that, I don't think it is a throw it back job, just needs a tweak. Mine were utterly reliable after that glitch was erased.

A little late I know. My D2X hates sandisk extreme cards - ok but then errs and hangs. But its all happy with lexar cards. Wierd but tried it with 4 sandisk cards (my standard) and got same problem.

Its all up to date as well. Could be something similar with yours.
