Looking for a bit of help...

I have been on the phone most of today with Curry's trying to locate a store with a D300! They have to check stock store by store so it was quite long winded and I had to name the stores for them to check...As we all know the D300 is replaced by the D300s, some places still have the D300 for sale at a discount. Curry's however have been flogging off their stock at £890 body only of course which is an absolute bargain. I have located a couple of stores that have one or two units although they are display models! don't really want something that has been manhandled by everyman and his dog.

What I am looking for is a little help from anyone out there who happens to be in a Curry's store this week to maybe just ask if they have a boxed stock D300 and let me know by either PM or in this thread. I can then contact them and sort it out from there.

Appreciate any help with this...

Understand what you say about display models, but do people buy D300 cameras from Currys. Sure, I bought my D40 from there and I guess loads of people buy the 3000, 5000 and even the D90, but Joe Public is not going to entertain £1k+ on a camera body and I would say most people who would spend that sort of money would buy online or at specialist camera shops. So maybe worth getting as i think unlikely to have been handled too often.

D300 is a beast though - love it!!!

Can you get a list of Currys shops online and then just ring round them all?
 
You're only paying around the same as you'd pay for a 'proper' second hand D300 complete with scratches, marks, and quite a few shutter actuations, not forgetting the missing warranty!

Same number for all shops, you go through to a central switchboard and they check stock shop by shop but you have to name the shops you want them to check! Once they find the product they then connect you to the shop, I then find they are display models...took me most of the day to check out 6 - 8 stores.

Hear what your saying although they are charging the same money for a display model as they are for a pristine boxed model, another 50 - 100 quid off then it is another type of decision I would be making. Until I have checked out the availability of boxed up ones I won't just take a display one.

Kev,

Try this link to Say No to 0870 and enter Currys as the Company name. This will list all the branches of Currys with their proper STD numbers with site location. That number should also get you direct to the store.

This is also handy for bypassing the Sky 0870 and all other centralised numbers. :thumbs: There are also sites for 0844, 0845 etc.
 
There are real bargains to be had at the moment .. I got a D60 with 18-55 for 210... I know it is not a VR but still was in mint condition just missing the Battery.... not bad at all really they had plenty of D300's it is the Mega Store in Walsall I could not justify something like that just yet but the Sale is for ALL DSLR's for anyone looking as they are changing the store aorund and the PC world ovr the road is grabbing the camera showcases... (they are part of same chain)... anyhoo happy huntng
 
pop into a currys branch ask a long term employee or a warehouse person, (Blue t-shirt and they know stock checking better than some managers) and they can check stores in regions not shop by shop, they can also check pc world. (ex employee myself)
 
Oh dear. I really want a D300 and this is the perfect opportunity to bag one on the cheap. My credit card is going to itch me all day.

...its not on their website and the arndale branch wasn't aware that any were on sale in the company>

I was in Currys this morning and they confirmed that I could buy it for that price but they could not do a search because the button didn't light up due to it being discontinued. Good luck with the search Iwill be doing the same.

I'm searching for a D300 as well - don't really want the D300S because of the price increase. Jessops has them online but at £1098.99 for the body only so I've been hoping for cheaper elsewhere.
 
Most stores only have 1 or 2 d300's in so your probs going to be getting the display.
That said, it should have the box and the not many people buy a 300 from currys so they dont really get touched, just sat on the shelf collecting dust!

if you have no luck by the weekend, give me a PM and i'll have a look for one in the northwest when i go back into work! (i work at currys!)

I got one from Currys in Wakefield for £810, I got an extra 10% off due an agreement with my camera club and the Currys Store. Unfortunately it was the last one...but they did have a display model that looked pristine....I checked as I was considering it if they had none in stock.

I'll keep an eye out though!

Yeah did see this, problem is I find myself in the strange position of having £800 credit on one of my cards so I need to pay using that card.

This is an option, if you buy online you can use the discount code "NIKON50" for an extra £50 off.

Appriciated Andy, I do know one or two have display models, I think I will need to get on my bike and physically have a look at them and make the decision on the day.

If that is the one at Wednesbury they have two, one is a well manipulated display model and the other is just a standard display unit, the guy in the shop described both to me.


I am out of the UK on business at present so can't continue my search until the weekend, hence the reason why I wanted to infest every Currys in the country with TP members while I was away :)
