Nikon D40X Battery Life

I bought a D40X a couple of years ago from a member of this forum, and unfortunately never really got round to using it.

I'm a complete newbie to photography and cameras, I've had an issue a couple of times with the shutter sticking but it seems to unstick itself after a while.

What I was wondering is, why is the battery life so poor? I have the Nikon battery that presumably came with it, and three others that are just plain.

I can charge all the batteries til full, but when I use them they seem to have a really short life? I'm not sure how long these things should last, but they only seem to last for perhaps 15 - 20 minutes of intermittent photo snapping/viewing on the display.

Should they last longer? Or is there anything I can do to prolong the life a bit?

Thanks

Sounds like you need new batteries. They should last much longer than that. I've had the same camera and mine lasted days. eBay do batteries for this camera fairly cheaply.
