If it's for static birds I'd choose the D810 so that I'd got 20 more MP for more cropability. If it's BIF you may prefer the better fps of the D4SI know some of you have had both
but which is the one to go for for a bird/wildlife shooter
I love my D750 but want a little more!.... or different?
For Birds & Wildlife i would say the D810![]()
I've had a D4S and I sold it on in favour of a D810.
D4S is fast but I never have been a machine-gunner and I never needed bursts of 100 frames, (though I am often near togs who do!) - it can handle noise well but for most folk it's just about speed.
The D810 can provide fantastic resolution and make cropping much easier and cleaner, always a bonus for wildlife ... the guff about stuffing the computer processing speed is largely myth unless you have a really poor machine.
For what it's worth, I also think you are making a hasty judgement of the D7200, you haven't had it long and if the weather in France has been anything like here in the UK you haven't had the opportunity to see it at its best ... be patient and you may well be rewarded, it's not a D750 but it's very good.![]()
Surprised at this, the D750 is only about 1 stop better than the d7200 in noise. As for the larger MP sensor, I assume you realise the D750 is also 24mp?for static birds - taken from a tripod the extra MP's really count - I see that from images posted on the net ........ and the extra that the D810 gives over the D750
but I see more noise on bigger MP sensors ... really disappointed looking at the noise levels of the 24MP DX sensor on the D7200 versus the FX D750
thinking I should keep my D700, (which I love), as a second body, but either the D4S or D810 is tempting
but 36mp will start to "stuff" the edit speeds of my MBP and iMac
You'll still get it with a D4S it isn't magic!noise just drives me crazy Roger

Keep your powder dry and wait for the d5.
Then you've just answered your own question.
Odd, I've heard good things about noise performance. I usually find this pretty reliable tooIn theory maybe, but in practice I have always found the D7xxx noisy over ISO 400/800 ...... that's why I longed for the D400
•For wildlife it has to be the D4s
What would be your reason(s)?![]()
machine gun v rifle?
•
Very different tools, very different game.
D4 is great for
• fast pace action including bird hunting 11f/s!!!
• larger pixels as the lower pixel count of 16 MP implies and that alone
makes it a great low light tool
D810
• the main feature here is the pixel count: 36.3 MP!!!
• a slow 5f/s sometimes and the huge file size fills the buffer in a quickie
• good for birding since it will allow for severe crops without a sweat.
I could not choose one over the other so I bought both!
But then you would have to make do with inferior bodiesinfiltrated by an ex Nikon user who has gone over to the "dark side" ........... I have often thought about doing the same because of the 600mm f4
Hope you had a good Xmas Joe
Is the Canon really that much better than the Nikon?infiltrated by an ex Nikon user who has gone over to the "dark side" ........... I have often thought about doing the same because of the 600mm f4

Speed of af, FPS,high ISO, and 16mp is enough and I prefer the built in grip, it means one less joint for the weather to ge in.What would be your reason(s)?![]()
Having used both my answer would be in a word No. There both tools to do a job.Is the Canon really that much better than the Nikon?

If I had the money I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on a D4s.
