i've got an s5 pro as backup to the d300 atm and i'm considering the hop up to a d700

now granted i've really not fiddled with the s5 at all and taken maybe 1 or 2 shots with it as i bought it mainly for a backup when i start doing weddings

question is anyone who has used/got both of these are there times you'd choose the s5 over the d700 and when? :)

cheers

Just bought 2 D700's Alex and from my research the D700 pushes the S5 on dynamic range and has much better high ISO and AF.

So I went for the D700.

I have both and don't think I'll be getting rid of either for a long time. The S5 is my choice in the studio (which I'm planning to get into a lot more) as the skin tones on it are beautiful. Though the D700 is obviously better at limiting noise, the noise actually produced on the Fuji is far more pleasing to the eye and 'film-like' so I've been known to bump the ISO up on my S5 for specific shots. The S5 is also supposed to be very good for shots directly into the sun. Not something I've exerimented with or directly compared to the D700 myself though.

I'd choose the S5 Pro where dynamic range or skin tones were vital.

The S5 Pro is has a clear extra stop of DR in the highlights over D700.

I must say that once I got my D700 I didn't use the S5 Pro much after that, but I always preferred the S5 Pro to the D200 or D300 by a long way.

I no longer shoot Nikon - don't have any Nikon bodies now, but I think very fondly of the S5 Pro in particular.
