Nikon D700 Underexposing using non-cpu lenses with max aperture greater than f2.8

My second D700 massively underexposes when the non-cpu lens data is set to a lens with a max aperture greater than f2.8. So if I set it to my 55mm f1.2, I get underexposure and vignetting in the top left of the frame, even if I chuck a different lens on, such as an f2.8. However, if I change the setting to any lens with a max aperture of f2.8 or higher, then the problem goes away on any lens I chuck on. I have just updated the firmware, as 'An issue that, in some very rare cases, caused images to be extremely under-exposed has been resolved.' Not this issue tho. I have checked other forums and found a person on Flickr had the same issue, unresolved.

Any thoughts? No, I can't return it, no warranty!

No - been over the settings in detail - it is only when using a non-cpu lens, and in the non-cpu lens details the max aperture is between 1.2 and 2.5. Leaving the max aperture field empty also causes the problem.

The problem seems to be the firmware. Unless there is an obscure setting somewhere causing this, then the fix is to send it back to Nikon. Or just set the max aperture to 2.8 for my 1.2 lens and ignore the exif...
