Nikon Dxx & Dxxxx awkward placement of AE-L button?

Anyone else with a crop nikon find the AE-L button a bit hard to reach?

If I wanna press it while looking through the finder my trigger finger ends up pressing the shutter with the middle of my finger instad of the fingertip. And the base of my palm is no longer moulded in either.

I hardly use the button anyway but had a go at back button focussing the other day and it's uncomfy.

And don't think I haven't noticed on the Dxxx and full frames they have a dedicated AF-ON right in the perfect spot. Ha ha very clever. They do their research these camera companies don't they.
 
It's the biggest problem with my d7k. Being left eye dominant makes it even worse.
 
Yeah it's funny you say that. I'm left-handed and when I first got this camera automatically used my left eye. I realised how awkward I was making it for myself so I forced myself to use my right eye. Uncomfortable at first but I got used to it pretty quickly. Now I'm a right-eyer!

It's still a bit of a pain that ae-l button though. Not biggie for me really because I literally never use it. I just find its placement a bit wired on nikon's part. I mean literally 5mm to the right would be perfect. Why would they put it there?
 
Can't say I have a problem with it, I couldn't considering I've remapped it to be the AF ;)

The AF button does fall nicely on the D300. The AEL button is still awkward but it becomes less of an issue if you're using back button focussing as you get use the shutter button to lock exposure (or I sometimes switch to manual) and of course you just let go of the AF button to lock focus.
