Nikon fit macro lens?

After a 100mm or 105 Macro lens for Nikon. To be used for Dental photography with ring flash.

Would the best bet me a used Sigma 105? There appears to be an OS version and a older non OS version? I don't think I will need the OS as used with a ring flash with quite fast SS, in good light. Is the non OS any good?

you could look into Tokina 100mm too.. great lens

Or the Tamron 90mm f/2.8. For macro work, OS/VR is less important (and effective) than at "normal" focussing distances. In fact, for flash dominated lighting and completely controlled situations, an old MF macro lens would work fine - settings should be fairly constant if ambient lighting is fairly subdued. IIRC, my dentist has a D90 with a Sigma 105 and a ring flash - don't know which brand the flash is though.

if the lighting is consistant then a manual ring flash should be perfectly fine and a huge saving too

Most macro lenses between 90 &105 mm will produce excellent results be it Nikon Sigma Tokina or Tamron I would check out condition if buying used optics for any fungus growth and smooth focus then go for the best priced one Don't rule out a MF lens either !
