Hi all,

Looking for a suggestion on a Nikon body that won't break me - he does know my kit a bit and knows about having video, his sister has a D5300 but I don't think I'll need to go that far.

So to cover video, actually hit autofocus and has is a DSLR what would you guys go for.

I'm thinking maybe a D3100 or D5000 but don't know the limitations well enough to be sure.

Oh and he does know a bridge camera when he sees one :D

Cheers.

Cool, cheers David, I'll dig around more - was that the one your lass had?

:o

Buy my d90 body

I think it will be a little out of my price range given a d3100 + kit lens went for £100 here recently

Cool, D3100 purchased :)

I'll have to get him a cheap lens too, but so far so good.

Thanks again.

Don't see the point in giving a kid a camera with a mirror box.

I did with my daughter when she was five and she looked after it better than most journo's I know.

With small kids its about teaching respect for themselves and property, give them cheap indestructible tat and they'll trash it, give them something they think of as valuable and more often than not they'll treat it well.

My daughter for instance - the worst thing she'll do is accidentally put her finger on the lens when she's picking it up or forget where she put the lens cap, she knows (as he does) that these are not cheap and that they should care for theirs and other peoples things.

If the worst comes to the worst and he trashes it then no great loss, most of us here have spent more on a p*** up than on this camera and I know which one I feel better about (especially in the morning!!)

Well, its just landed and he stoked :)

Borrowed his sisters 18-55 - she's borrowing my 50mm - and he's getting it pretty quickly (in auto granted) - nothing is safe its like having a mini paparazzi in the house!

..however the cats not so happy - I've had to shoo him away from the litter tray!!
